CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

When they got home, Logan followed her into the bedroom.

“Emma,” Logan said, and she turned.

Being near him was confusing. She couldn’t wait to go home and get him out of her system.

After a really big cry.

Logan had said he would take her, but Emma was tempted to ring Harper. It seemed a little dramatic. The cost would be insane for Daniel and Harper, and while they had money coming out of their ears, that wasn’t the point.

Logan wasn’t a monster; she would sleep in the spare room and keep her distance.

Hopefully, he would be able to take her home in a couple of days, if not sooner.

Emma couldn’t blame him. Clearly, he had baggage he hadn’t dealt with. Yes, his words had hurt her, but it had been her choice to come here with him when she’d known he was emotionally unavailable.

She had to take ownership of that.

Hell, she wrote romance. Emma knew what unrequited love was.

“I am sorry,” he said, taking a step closer to her, his hands landing on her hips. “I overreacted. I like having you here.”

Warmth spread through her.

No, don’t hope.

This man is broken. He has nothing to offer you.

“I didn’t bring you here because I feel guilty. Of course, I felt guilty—I feltfuckingguilty—but that’s not why you’re here,” Logan said. “I wanted you here. Selfishly, perhaps, but I wanted more of you.”

Emma shrugged. “I agreed to come. The sexual attraction between us has been insatiable. Now it’s time to say goodbye.”

A hand ran up her arm and cupped the back of her head.

“I don’t want to let you go. As fucked up as that sounds after last night.”
