Zoe opened her mouth and then shut it.

Yeah, he wasn’t asking for that story. It was obvious.

“Then worms his way onto my board and starts trying to undermine me,” Logan growled.

“I can’t believe this,” Zoe said and began pacing. “No. No!”

Logan crossed his arms.

“I’m sorry, Zoe. You’ve been played.I’vebeen fucking played,” Logan said, shaking his head. “We were both played by this man.”

“What about...our child?” she said, and he could hear the emotion in her voice.

Was she joking right now?

Logan saw red.

“You’ll remember, the child is not mine, for fuck’s sake,” he growled. “I’m sorry this has happened, but I’m just as much a victim here and...” Logan thought about his words for half a second and decided they had to be said. “You spread your legs for Doug, Zoe. Not once, multiple times.”

She spun around.

“You bastard.”

He stood his ground, glaring at her.

“I hope you lose your goddamn company,” she said, grabbing her jacket and bag.

“Clearly, you are both made for each other.” Logan followed her to the door as she marched through the house.

She turned to say something to him, but Logan slammed the door in her face.

Good fucking riddance.

His eyes lifted to the top of the stairs.

He wanted to go to Emma, but he had hours ahead of him if he was going to fix this.

Then they’d talk.

––––––––

WITHIN TWENTY MINUTES, Logan had called an emergency board meeting with all the members except Doug.

“What’s going on, Logan?” Laura asked as more faces turned up on the screen.

“Let’s wait for everyone to arrive,” he said.

Then, when they had, Logan began sharing what he’d learned.

At first, there was disbelief. But as he spelled it out, and with support from Jeff, his GM, who had remembered Simon Middleton, everyone began to understand the severity of the situation.

“It’s not that easy to get rid of a board member,” Roger, their lawyer, said.

Logan smiled.

“Oh yes, it is. When they have lied on their paperwork. Doug never declared that his father worked for Dufort Liquor, which he was required to do,” Logan said.

“Except he was deceased,” Roger challenged.
