What surprised Emma was how right it felt, having him stand so close.

At the same time, it brought up so many questions.

Emma liked Logan.

She was very attracted to him.

But was shein likewith him?

Or was it a result of having spent three nights together now?

It had to be that.

He wasn’t her type.

And she wasn’t his.

The music shifted gears into the popular love song “How Deep is Your Love” by the Bee Gees, and the sun began to dip in the sky. Fletcher led Olivia over to an area they’d created as a dance floor. Still three months from full term, Liv was sure on her feet as Fletcher spun her around and then slightly dipped her.

It was so completely romantic.

“Smooth.” Logan’s voice a gravel beside her.

Emma smirked and shot him a look. He shrugged.

Daniel took Harper’s hand and led her away. A moment later, they joined the loved-up couple on the dance floor.

Then Jackson and Kristen.

“You don’t have a romantic bone in your body, do you?” Emma laughed.

“No. It got battered to pieces.” Logan’s eyes went dark. A few blinks later, he turned to face her. “You’re smart to stay single, Emma. Marriage isn’t for everyone.”

“I never said I didn’t want to ever get married. Just not now, not...” She trailed off.

“Me?”

Emma turned back to the dance floor. “Well, no. I don’t see myself with a professional man. I left that world for a reason. I was a lawyer.”

“You’re joking.” Logan laughed.

She turned to him, a little annoyed.

“No, I have a law degree. I spent a few years in the job and quickly learned I couldn’t do it long term. One day, I started writing. I pushed publish, and people bought my stories. Now here I am. The end.”

Logan slowly nodded as he studied her.

“And you’re happy?”

“I am. My mother isn’t. Dr. Edwards, award-winning surgeon. My father is also a celebrated surgeon. My brother, a doctor specializing in pediatrics. And here I am, an erotic author.” Emma shrugged. “Word porn, as my mother calls it.”

Logan was quiet, staring down at her.

“You don’t come across as someone who needs other people’s permission to be yourself,” he said, tilting his head.

Was she?

There was a difference between some random stranger judging you and the woman who birthed you constantly saying you’d made a mistake and were throwing away a respectful career.
