Thanks to Riley, I have a lot of explaining to do now.

I lift my head slightly, eyes on Riley. “Hurry your ass up.”

With an armful of clothes, she pouts. “I have to change.” Her eyes wander down to her clothes, and I notice she’s wearing pajamas.

Straightening my back, I level with her. “You’ve got clothes on,” I point a stern finger at the door, “now get the fuck out.”

Once again, a little too harsh, but necessary. I need her out of here before Maddie overhears more shit I don’t need her hearing.

It’s just my fucking luck that heavy footsteps fill the air, and the next thing I know, I’m faced with a fuming Scar. “What the hell did you say to her?” She rages, eyes dancing from me to Riley.

Getting some fresh air, my ass.

I need to diffuse this situation quickly or hell is about to break loose. I walk into Scar, bumping my chest to hers while backing her out the doorway.“Upstairs!”

“No!” She shoves me a couple steps, forcing me back in the bathroom. “I told Riley she could stay here and she stays.”

Looking down at her, I narrow my eyes as I try to pull the door shut behind me, so Maddie can’t see or hear anything, but Scar has the toe of her boot wedged in it. Doesn’t matter anyway, there’s no way she missed this. “You’re walking in on shit that’s not your business so get back to class and let me handle this.”

“It’s fine,” Riley says from behind me. Snatching her phone off the sink with a huff, she shoves the door open and storms out of the bathroom, still speaking. “I’ll just go back to my dorm and change there. Don’t worry, asshole. You won't see me here again.” She steps past us, ramming her shoulder hard against mine, but I’m certain it hurt her more than it did me.

Scar reaches out, grabbing Riley by the arm. “No, Ry. This isn’t just Neo’s house. Crew and Jagger said it was fine for you to say. Ignore him.” Her eyes are on mine as she grits out the words. “He just hates his life, so he wants us to hate ours, too.”

Riley pulls her arm away. “You might be okay with this mess, but I’m not.” She stomps up the stairs, and if she knows what’s good for her, she’ll go straight out the front door.

“What are you waiting for?” I tip my chin. “Go after her.”

“You’d love that, wouldn't you? Two birds with one stone?” Steam rolls out of Scar’s flared nostrils, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. “I’m not going anywhere until you tell me…” Her voice rises to a screeching howl, her teeth bared. “…why you’re such a fucking asshole!”

Damn.I’m not sure I’ve ever seen her this mad. Of all the things I’ve done to try and get her to this boiling point, all it took was me being a dick to her friend.

Her hands meet my chest as she shoves me back, farther and farther, and while I should fight back, I don’t because I’m kinda turned on right now.

Each word that leaves her mouth is proceeded by another shove backward. “Time and time again…” My back hits the glass shower door. “…you do this shit just to piss me off. We both know this isn’t about Riley being here. It’s about you wanting to make me miserable.”

I’m not sure whether to laugh or fight back at this point.

When my response is nothing but pressed lips and a bitten back smile, she shouts louder, “Say something, dammit!”

She’s right. I do need to say something because if I don’t act fast, shit will hit the fan. There’s no way Maddie didn’t hear Scar’s voice. They’ve been best friends for years. She’d know her voice anywhere.

My hands land on Scar’s curvy hips. I lean close and I whisper in her ear, while inhaling her floral, yet earthy scent, “You’re gonna do exactly what I say, understand?”

An airy laugh escapes her. “Not a chance.”

Ghosting her ear with my lips, I repeat myself, “Do. You. Understand?”

Her hands find my chest and she pushes herself off me. One hand remains on her hip, and while I hate what I have to do, it needs to be done. Confused eyes meet mine. “No,” she says pointedly.

I keep my voice low, so Maddie doesn’t hear me. “Remember that secret I told you I had? Well, it will be exposed to, not only the entire student body, but The Elders, if you don’t do exactly what I say.”

If Maddie finds out that Scar and Crew are together, she’s bound to give up her fight. She’s come so far since she’s woken up, and I’d hate to see her take steps backward. Not to mention, her heart will be shattered. This is also the perfect opportunity to break apart the trio that has been haunting my house.

Her head shakes rapidly. “No. You’re fucking insane. I’m not doing shit for you. Expose my secret. I don’t care.”

I quirk a brow. “You sure about that?”

“I don’t care what you do, Neo. Just leave me the hell alone.” She spins on her heels to walk away, but I grab her arm and tug her close.
