“She’s not here. Can I help you?” she asked, her blue eyes raking over me as she considered all the ways she might be able to help. Like out of my pants. I couldn’t miss her thorough review. Appreciatively and not subtly. It wasn’t inappropriate, but the gaze of a woman who saw something she liked.

I might’ve been interested because she was pretty, age appropriate and had no ring on her finger. But that was before Bridget. It seemed my dick and I had a thing for petite, shy brunettes who came just for me.

“I’m Maverick James. Her…” I paused for a second because I wanted to say boyfriend, but I felt too old for that term. Besides, Bridget and I hadn’t talked about a relationship–which we were in even if she didn’t know it–for me to share it yet with anyone. “...boss.”

Awareness lit the woman’s eyes. “Oh, right. James Corp. I’m her sister, Lindy.”

Bridget’s sister, the one who had probably taken care of her after their parents died. Her much older, very blonde sister. Shit. She was the one I should be into. A woman who wasn’t fifteen years younger.

I didn’t need this woman to think I was a dirty old man, fingerfucking her little sister. Shit, I was one. But Bridget liked it. No, loved it. Coming for me and only me. She didn’t care about my age. I had a feeling it got her hot, me being older. Being in charge and watching out for her. Because a twenty-two-year-old boy wasn’t going to be able to do that for her. He wouldn’t give her what she needed. The proof of it had been in her sex quiz.

I offered my hand and she shook it.

“Nice to meet you,” she said. “I was out this afternoon so I don’t know what she’s doing. Would you like to come in and wait for her? I can get you some coffee, a drink perhaps?”

She just asked me in for a drink. Yeah, she was interested in me, and I admired her for her efforts, but I felt uncomfortable because of it. I’d had my head between her little sister’s thighs only a few hours earlier.

“Thanks, but no. I think Bridget and I got our wires crossed.”

I stepped back and Lindy looked disappointed.

“I’ll tell her you stopped by,” she said. “Maybe I’ll see you again.”

“You definitely will,” I replied confidently. Only because Lindy was Bridget’s sister and if I kept Bridget, I kept the sister. “Thanks.”

Her eyes brightened and I realized she may have misunderstood. I wasn’t going to fix it now and hopefully it would become clear to everyone–including Bridget–soon enough.

I went back to my car to figure out where the hell Bridget was. If she’d run again, I wouldn’t spank her, because as we both learned, she’d like it too much. Maybe a plug in her ass. It would be awfully hard to run off with one of those nice and deep.

BRIDGET

When Mav came into the restaurant, my first thought was, God, he was hot. The second was that he was angry.

I swallowed hard.

“I told you he wanted to pick you up,” Dex leaned close and murmured as his brother weaved around the tables.

We were at a local brew pub that was popular for its outdoor seating, like Kincaids the night before. Since it was Saturday, the place was already full. Since the place was owned by Mal’s brother, Arlo, she’d called ahead and he kept a prime table for us.

We had drinks in front of us but hadn’t ordered any food.

Mallory’s obsession with Theo was short-lived when he told her he was dating someone. Silas and Dex frowned–practically grimaced–when he shared that, so I had to assume they didn’t like her. Her name was Maude and she was a podiatrist who worked at the same hospital. Mallory had taken it in her usual laid-back way and was enjoying Dex’s stories, which he never seemed to be short of.

Mav stopped right in front of my chair, reached down and pulled me to my feet. He cupped my jaw, then kissed me. Like seriously kissed me, right in the middle of the patio.

Someone whistled.

Mav only lifted his head when he was good and finished with the kiss.

I was wobbly and hot all over. He’d given me two orgasms earlier while he’d had none. I thought of Mallory’s comment about his blue balls and blamed his grumpy attitude on that.

“Baby, why didn’t you wait for me?” he asked. With him leaning down, his dark eyes were right in front of mine. I couldn’t see anyone else but him.

“I… I didn’t know you were coming back.”
