He tugged my hand and pulled me toward the elevator.

“Mav, where are you taking me?”

“Hotel room. I own the place, remember? I’m going to prove it, baby. All night long.”

BRIDGET

* * *

As we rode in the elevator, up, up to some room in Mav’s hotel, I studied him. The way he looked in a tuxedo. Insanely handsome in a way that had women looking twice at him in the lobby.

There was an older couple and a woman with a young child with us, so we didn’t do more than hold hands.

I tried to process what Mav had shared. The truth of what he did this week.

He was a good friend.

He was honorable.

He was… nice.

And, it seemed, he was mine.

The woman and child got off on floor ten.

Mav tugged my hand and pulled me into him. He wrapped an arm around me to hold me close. I rested my head on his chest. I felt his lips on the top of my head and closed my eyes for a moment. He broke Jason’s nose. He manhandled his brother. Both times, it had been to defend me. Yet now he was being gentle. Soft, if that would ever be something that defined him.

I knew it and I wouldn’t tell anyone.

The doors opened again on fourteen and the older couple exited.

When we were on the move again, alone, he turned and pressed me into the elevator wall. His hand cupped my jaw.

“My quiz said I’d fuck you in front of others.”

I hadn’t expected him to say that. His voice was dark. Deep. Completely opposite of his hold, which was powerful and potent. Possessive. All the P’s. I looked up at him and blinked. Melted a little.

“If that was what you wanted,” he added.

I remembered. I remembered every single word.

“I… I don’t want that,” I admitted. Nothing about the idea of exhibitionism appealed to me, even with Mav.

His dark eyes roved over my face. “Good, because I won’t do it. That’s why I’m not kissing you in the elevator. There are cameras and I don’t let anyone see what’s mine.”

I didn’t even think of them, but I melted a whole lot more at his protectiveness. No, possessiveness. Which was it?

Both?

The elevator dinged and the doors opened. He took my hand again and led me down a long hallway. Pulling his wallet from his pants pocket, he pressed it against the lock sensor, then tucked it away again after it clicked unlocked.

He held the door for me and I entered first.

“You… you live here?”

The question showed that while I had fallen for him hard and fast, trusted him so much, I didn’t even know the basics about him.
