“Yes.”

I heard him cover the phone and talk to someone, probably Bridget, although I could hear it all clearly. “Yes, with Eve. At the inn. Yes. I know. Of course they’re stuck there without the plows,” he said as if Bridget was being obtuse, which was impossible.

“There’s at least two feet. Maybe three,” I told him. His house wasn’t five miles away, but higher up in the hills. They could have more than here at the inn. “I’ve got an SUV, but the snow’s too deep for it.”

“I’ll call the service that does my driveway and–”

“No plowing! No plowing!” Bridget called.

“–they could be there sometime this afternoon. No way workers will show up, so you have the place to yourselves.”

“Yes, leave them there,” Bridge said, her voice carrying.

“Why should we leave them there?” Mav asked her.

“He needs to tell her the truth about the camming!”

Eve nabbed a corn chip, oblivious to the conversation in my ear. I took her in. The same clothes as the day before, but I knew she wasn’t wearing anything beneath. No bra. No panties. Her hair was a tousled mess, and she must’ve found a hair tie in her purse because it was up in a sloppy bun.

No makeup, well rested, well satisfied, she was fucking gorgeous.

I crooked a finger and she came over. I kissed the top of her head and wrapped an arm around her so her back was to my front. She felt soft. Warm.

Mine.

And mine alone.

No workers. No access to our jobs or the outside world.

I had Eve all to myself and just like Bridget had suggested, no plowing.Leave them there.

“Don’t worry about it,” I told Mav.

“What?” Mav asked, surprised. “You–oh. Ow! Baby, that fucking hurt. You want a spanking, don’t you?”

“No plowing at the inn!”

I imagined Bridget smacking Mav and tried not to laugh. He was a tank and she was tiny. “Fine, we’re leaving you,” he replied. “Tomorrow then?”

I thought about it. Tomorrow? Would that be enough time to have Eve all to myself?

Hell no.

“The next day. And tell Bridget that Eve knows.”

He did and I heard Bridget in the background. Was she clapping?

He laughed. Finally, he caught on. “Got it. Not tomorrow. Have fun.”

“We will,” I said, then hung up, snagging a corn chip, then taking the plate from her and setting it on the arm of the reading chair tucked into the cozy bay window.

“Hey! We’re sharing that!”

I spun her to face me, leaned down and tossed her over my shoulder. Now that I knew we would be alone for a while, I was going to take full advantage.

“Are you always going to do this? Carry me around like a sack of potatoes?”

“Oh, kitten, you have no idea.”
