I tossed my hands up, then took a big swig of my wine. I had no idea how much I drank because Mallory kept refilling it. “With money!” They stared at me. “What?”

“He’s a billionaire,” Mallory said. “He has money. He’s using it because he wants to help you.”

I shook my head. “No.”

“He loves you,” Bridget added. “He never would have married you if he didn’t.”

“No,” I repeated. “He never said it. Not once.” I’d have remembered that because no one else had ever said it to me either.

“Well, he’s a dumbass,” Bridget added.

I shook my head again. “My parents controlled me with money. When I finally started to push back, they made it worse. Cheney got involved. The guy I dated for years used money against me, to force me to do what he wanted.”

“Your ex is namedCheney?” Mallory asked.“That sounds like an asshole’s name.”

The corner of my mouth twitched at the way her face looked, all scrunched up as if she smelled something bad.

Bridget reached over, took my hand. “Silas doesn’t want your business, I’m sure of it. He wants it to succeed. He’s a CEO. It’s literally hardwired in him to see businesses thrive.”

“Exactly. He needed me to be his wife to ensure his deal went through.”

“You had every right to freak out,” Mallory said. “I mean, he wanted you to take a spa day on his credit card. What an idiot. But maybe hear the idiot out.”

Bridget nodded. “Real love, love I think you have with Silas, what I have with Mav and Mal has with Theo, it’s unconditional.”

“Theo flew to Vegas to help me out of my hooker arrest because he loved me when he didn’t know it.”

I stared at her, unsure if what she was saying was an exaggeration or truth. “Hooker arrest?”

She waved me off. “Another long story.”

“Your parents love themselves first,” Bridget continued. “Same thing with your ex. I have a feeling, if you hear him out, you may see that he’s been thinking of you all along.”

“Does that make me the asshole then? I mean, I wanted to marry him right back, not because of love, but because it gave me access to my trust.”

“You did that because it was the only way to ditch that dead weight you’ve been carrying. The worst examples of love around.”

“I don’t know what love is then,” I admitted.

Bridget gave me a soft smile. “You do. You love Silas. You loved him all while you thought it was conditional.”

I frowned. “How do you know?”

“Yeah, how do you know, Yoda?” Mallory asked Bridget.

“Because your heart is broken right now. If you didn’t love him, you wouldn’t hurt.”

Bridget’s cell pinged with a text. She grabbed it and her face fell.

“What?” Mallory said. “What’s the matter?”

“It’s from Mav. Silas texted him.” Bridget looked my way, then held her phone out for me to read.

Hyport deal is dead. I’m worse than Dad.

I gasped at what Silas sent Mav. From what he told me about his father, Silas wasnothinglike him. So what if he watched porn during a business meeting. So what if he faked a marriage to close a deal. He didn’t screw people over.

I gasped again at what came to me.
