“Ah, I’m just an old man who likes to talk.” He waves a wrinkled, shaking hand.

“I don’t know, Rudy. I think you’ve got your own journey. One you don’t talk about. After all, as you mentioned, a hero doesn’t seek recognition.” Yes. There’s definitely a story here.

One I’ll never be able to investigate or write.

I turn my attention back to Lix.

It’s the price I must pay for falling in love with Felix Daxon.

One I’m more than willing to fork any amount of money over for.

Chapter 33

Lix walks into the living room in dark-gray pants, a white dress shirt, and a tie that dangles around his neck. I have the sense to drag his sexy ass into the bedroom, but it’s court day.

He’s about to face his past to better his future. He’s been waiting for and dreading this day. He’s done the work and attended every session with Dr. Shannon.

After enduring six months of AA meetings so he could see his mom,I never doubted his dedication. Though, this is different. He’s finally getting the chance to save his mom, not as a child in a dysfunctional home, holding a gun, but as a man. A good man. An honest and caring man.

My man.

“Let the shit show begin,” he says with a wayward grin, wandering over to me with his hands in the air.

I stand from the sofa. “You’re going to do great. Just remember what Dr. Shannon said, and everything will be fine.”

“She suggests I draw from Raga,” he says with a chuckle.

“Who?” I’m not sure what he’s talking about, but if I keep the conversation going, I usually find out.

“Raga, the fairy godfather.” He waves his hand in the air. “Whenever I do an escort, I bring him out.”

“Like an imaginary friend?”

“No. Raga resides in me, not outside of me. Dr. Shannon says he’s my protector. Well, the one I developed to make up for my insecurities.”

Interesting but it makes sense. When he’s out on an escort, he’s the only person he can rely on. “And it works, becoming Raga?”

“Every time.” He grins. “I’m still here, and I’ve never lost a Julia.”

“Well, then, bring out the Raga at court today.”

He laughs, playing with his tie.

“I think I’d like this Raga.” I grab his tie and pull him in for a kiss. “Perhaps, I could meet him sometime.”

“Well, I’d have to say he’s never encountered the likes of you. Then again, you’re not a threat. So Raga may never show his face around you.”

“I’m glad to hear I’m not a threat.”

“Not anymore.” He chuckles, moving into the kitchen.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I trail him.

“Our first few encounters, you scared the fuck out of me. I didn’t know what you wanted, and I didn’t know what to do with what I felt for you. I was a mess.” He shakes his head.

“You never showed it.”

“That was my master plan. Remain calm and in control until I discovered what you wanted. Then once I found out, I’d deal with what I felt for you.”
