“I’m sorry,” Myles and Gavin said in unison.

“Thanks, but she really suffered in the end, and I was happy that she was finally at peace. She had ovarian cancer,” she said.

“That’s tough,” Gavin said.

“Yeah, it was. My dad was never really in the picture. He took off on my mom when I was about two years old, and we never heard from him since.”

“Any brothers or sisters?” Gavin asked.

“Nope, just me and my mom. I mean, I suppose that my father could have more kids, but no one has ever contacted me or anything,” she said. She sipped the last of her wine and Myles offered her more. Genesis nodded her head and held out her glass to him, making both him and Gavin chuckle.

“I guess talking about my lack of family makes me thirsty,” she teased. “Do you have any family in the area Myles?” she asked.

“Nope,” he said. “My father lives on the West Coast still and I don’t get to see him much. Hell, I never got to see him very much. His favorite child was his business that he started before I was even born. He became a billionaire by the time I was four and his work responsibilities were more important than me most days. I was sent to boarding school by the time I was nine and only saw him on major holidays—you know Christmas and such.”

“That had to be so lonely,” Gen said.

“It was and as an only child, I really came to resent my father casting me off so easily. It’s one of the reasons why I joined the Army. It was the one thing that I could do with my life that would really piss him off.”

“Let me guess, he wanted you to go into business with him,” Gavin asked.

“Yep, and when I refused to even go to college, he was pretty mad. I joined the military and didn’t look back,” Myles said.

“Do you have a relationship with your father now?” Genesis asked.

Myles shrugged, “Kind of,” he said, “if you consider the checks that he sends me monthly and the ridiculously huge house he bought me here in town a relationship.”

“Wow,” Genesis said, “I guess that doesn’t count, but a huge house can’t really hurt to mend fences, right?”

“It doesn’t make up for my father not being a part of my life. Like you, I grew up with only one parent. My mother died in childbirth having me,” Myles said.

“I’m sorry,” Gavin said, reaching across the table to take Myles’s hand into his own.

The three of them sat like that, eating, talking, and holding hands. It was the first time in a long time that Gavin felt complete. He didn’t want to get his hopes up, but he couldn’t seem to help himself, he was.

At the end of the evening, he paid the bill, insisting that Myles could get the next one, and they walked out of the restaurant holding hands. It was the perfect end to their evening, but he wanted more. Maybe that made him sound like a greedy bastard, but he didn’t care. “I don’t want tonight to end,” he almost whispered.

Myles stopped outside the front door and turned to face him. “You don’t?” he asked.

“No, but I don’t want to push either of you into something that we might not be ready for,” Gavin said.

“How do you feel about it, Gen?” Myles asked.

“I don’t want tonight to end either, but I didn’t want to be the first to say it out loud,” she admitted.

“So, how about we agree to go back to my place and see where we end up? Even if we just sit up and talk all night, we can at least be together. But we need to make a pact that this doesn’t go any further unless all three of us are in agreement. Deal?” he asked.

“Deal,” Gen and Gavin agreed in unison.

“Great, how about you two follow me back to my place?” he asked. They all agreed to meet back at Myles’s place and Gavin felt his nerves amp up. Myles didn’t live far, but the entire drive over to his place had Gavin’s stomach in knots.

They all parked in Myles’s driveway and Gavin whistled to himself as he looked over the big house. Myles wasn’t kidding about his place being too big for just one person—it was huge. He and Gen stood on the front porch waiting for him and he quickly got out of his truck and joined them.

“Sorry to keep you both waiting,” he said. “You weren’t kidding about your house being huge.”

Myles smiled at him, “Well, I like ‘em big,” he taunted. Gavin groaned, letting Myles pull him in for a quick kiss. It was their first and hot as hell knowing that Genesis was caught up between the two of them, watching their every move.

“I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about watching you two kiss, but I have to admit, I like it,” she whispered. They both took turns kissing her when Myles said that they should go in because his nosey neighbors were probably getting quite the show. Gavin had to admit he liked the idea of the three of them taking the show inside and continuing it.
