“Ooh, they have some fancy stuff here,” Erin remarks.

Indeed they do. They have foods in other languages and things soaked or steamed in wines from different regions in France. I can envision the food in small portions coming on big plates that’ve been heated.

Perhaps I punched a bit over my weight in this place. I have no idea how to sit here and not make fun of the petite over-priced food and buy a wine that’s more than seven bucks. I’m hoping Erin knows something about this stuff.

“So… what were you thinking of ordering?” I look over my menu and watch her look over hers. She bites her lip and hums, then points at something.

“I think I’ll get the steamed white mussels in white wine. With some steamed vegetables and….”

“Steamed wine?” I joke, and Erin laughs so loud that some of the other patrons turn and give us judgy looks.

The server comes over and asks if we’d like to start with a drink.

“What would you suggest?” Erin asks him.

“The Domaine Jamet Cote Roti 2010 is pretty good.”

Erin and I nod at each other, and she says, “We’ll take that one.”

The server leaves, and I figure this is the time to get some things off my chest.

“So I thought I’d run through the basics.” I cross my arms on the table, and Erin does the same, leaning in. “Yes, I like pineapple on pizza. No, to summer, but yes to winter. And I prefer dogs over cats.”

Erin giggles. “Okay, my turn. I also like pineapple on pizza. Summer every day! I love little puppies.” Her face scrunches up.

She is so fucking cute.

I feel the string on my hidden heart being tugged. She’s so perfect to me. For me. The ways she makes me feel so alive is palpable. I’ve known her for a combined, say, six hours, and yet I feel like I’ve known her for a lifetime. Sure, I can’t tell you anything specific, like her favourite colour, but it feels like our souls know each other.

“You know, when I saw those guys at your apartment, I thought maybe you didn’t like women,” Erin admits. “That’s why I asked about them.”

So it seems Erin had as much of an instant crush as I did.

“Yeah, they’re just friends. I can introduce you if you’d like?”

“Ooh, we’re at the ‘introduction’ stage already?” she jokes. Still, there’s something serious in her tone, silently asking if we really are there.

And to be honest, I’m already at the point where I want to ask her to move in with me.

“Yeah, I guess. Do you think we are?”

“I mean, we’ve just met. We haven’t even had sex yet?” She laughs, sipping her water as she turns red again.

I chuckle. “Is that important? I thought sex wasn’t everything?”

“Yeah, but what if I’m shit? Do you really want to introduce your friend to a woman who doesn’t know how to make you come?”

I smile and say, “That’s alright. I can spend the rest of my life teaching you.”

She blushes again, and now I want to see how far down that blush goes. Does it cover her tits? Maybe it stops at her collarbone.

The server returned with the wine and gave us a couple of glasses.

We try the wine in front of him.

“Not bad,” Erin says. I take a sip and let it sit in my mouth for a second. I think that’s how the professionals do it. It tastes sweet and smooth.

“Yeah, I like it,” I say.
