Chapter 9
Belle
Idon’t know how long I’ve been passed out when I hear something outside of my bedroom window. My eyes pop open and I look over to find Maddox passed out next to me.
I frown, because I never let anyone spend the night. That’s how I don’t get attached.
I climb out of bed and walk into the living room. My phone shows that it’s four in the morning. My windows are open, and I hear something outside again.
“What the fuck?” I whisper. I wonder if I should wake Maddox up? Then I remember that I’ve never needed a man before.
I grab a T-shirt off the floor in the living room and open the screen door. It’s so eerily quiet out, and I can hear my own heartbeat.
My head whips to the left when I hear sticks crunching. “Hello?” I call out.
Nothing. I’m met with silence.
I walk down the steps and out into the yard. “Hello?” I call out again.
I’m back behind the house when I feel a hand clamp over my mouth. Whoever it is wraps their arm around my waist to hold me still.
I can feel hot breath on my ear, and I want to throw up. “Don’t fight me.” The voice sounds vaguely familiar, but I can’t figure out who it is.
“I’ve been watching you,” they whisper in my ear. I can feel tears spring to my eyes.
I will not let this person see me break down. I try to scream, but it comes out muffled.
“Just remember, I’ve seen everything. Everything.” A tongue swipes against my ear and I feel the bile in my throat.
They let go of my body, but just as I go to turn around, I feel something hard hit me from behind, and everything goes black.

“Belle?”I feel someone shaking me. “Belle? Wake up.”
I groan and open my eyes to find Maddox standing over me.
“What the fuck, Belle? What happened?”
“Where am I?” I’m confused. Did I dream what just happened?
