I watch him grab bowls and milk. I don’t like how familiar it feels to be around him. I don’t like the level of comfort I feel.

“Was it a man or a woman?”

“Definitely a man. He put his tongue in my ear.” I shudder.

“He did what?” he growls, anger evident in his eyes.

I roll my eyes. “Oh, for fuck’s sake. Get a grip, Maddox.”

“I told you I was going to fucking kill anyone that put their hands on you, and I meant it.” He strides over and cradles my face in his hands.

“Don’t get attached to me. I’ll run,” I whisper.

“I know you will.” He pulls my mouth to his and I melt into his touch.

We’re interrupted by a knock at the door. I look over at the door, confused. I can’t figure out who would be here. There are only a few people that know where I live, and one of them is dead.

“I know you’re in there. Your car is out front.” I hear Tiffany’s voice from the other side and roll my eyes.

“Great,” I mutter.

I walk over and open the door. Tiffany immediately spots Maddox and rolls her eyes.

“Oh, how cute. Ya’ll are playing house now?”

“What do you want Tiff?” I sigh.

“Have you heard from Dax?” I stiffen at his name, but she doesn’t notice.

“Not since yesterday.” I walk away from her and back towards the kitchen.

“He hasn’t shown up at the club yet. Nobody knows where he is.”

They aren’t looking too hard. His body is next to the dumpster outside.

I shrug, trying to make myself seem as unbothered as I can. “I dunno. I fucked him yesterday and that’s the last time I saw him.”

“You’re okay with her just fucking whoever she wants?” Tiffany turns her attention to Maddox.

“She’s not my property.” I smirk, because I know he’s not okay with me just fucking whoever I want.

“If you hear from him, call the club. Are you working tonight?” Tiffany asks.

“No. I think I’m taking the night off.”

“Since when do you take nights off?”

“Since I decided I wanted to have a night off.” Tiffany is really getting on my nerves lately. She’s so fucking nosey.

“I don’t get why you’re such a bitch all the time, Belle,” she huffs.

“I’ve always been a bitch. Why are you acting like this is some new thing?” I point out.

I watch Maddox sit down at the table with his cereal. I can’t seem to be bothered by him making himself at home anymore, like I just was minutes ago. I think I kind of like that it’s obviously pissing Tiffany off.

“I’m gonna go. It’s obvious that I interrupted something. Let me know when you’re back to being the old Belle. Call me when your latest plaything moves on.” She shoots Maddox a glare and he throws a hand up in a wave.

I have to stop myself from laughing.
