She’s still alive, but she’s passed the fuck out.

I pull my phone out of my pocket to text Maddox. While I wait for him to get down here, I check all the rooms and make sure we don’t accidently kill someone else while trying to kill Destiny.

“Belle?” I hear Maddox call out into the trailer, so I make my way back towards the front.

“I’m here.”

“What now?”

“How did you plan to kill her when you showed up here?” I ask him.

He shrugs. “I didn’t have a plan yet. I wanted to get to know her first, figure out her schedule.”

“Imagine that. You’re useless.” I roll my eyes.

“I love it when you talk to me like I’m a piece of shit.” He laughs.

“Go outside. There’s a shed out back. Grab the gas can and bring it inside.”

I walk into the kitchen and turn on one of the burners on the stove. I grab Destiny’s purse off the couch and start digging for a cigarette.

Just as I pull one out, Maddox walks back inside with a gas can.

“What now?”

“I turned that burner on.” I gesture towards the stove. “Now I’m going to pour gasoline all over the trailer and then light this cigarette and toss it into one of the puddles near her bed.”

“Sounds good to me. Should I throw a pan of something on the stove, so it looks like she was cooking and forgot to turn it off?” he asks.

“That’s a good idea. You do that and I’ll start in the back room with the gas.”

I pour an abundance of gasoline around and onto her bed. I want to make sure she actually burns. I don’t want there to be any chance she’s getting out of this trailer alive.

“Get out, Maddox,” I yell from the back. Destiny doesn’t even stir.

“I’m not leaving without you.”

I roll my eyes, even though he can’t see me. “This isn’t a suicide mission, dumbass. I don’t want to die. Just get the fuck out.”

I don’t wait for him to respond. “Rot in hell, Destiny,” I say as I light her cigarette and toss it onto the bed.

The bed immediately engulfs in flames, and I run out the back door of the trailer. I toss the gas can back into the shed and run to the front where I find Maddox.

“I didn’t think you were gonna get out of there.”

“Come on. We need to get out of here.” I grab his hand and we run through several yards before we make it back to the laundromat.

We’re both breathing heavy when we get inside the car. “Holy shit,” he says, laughing.

“I think we did it,” I say, breathless but feeling more alive than I ever have.

He looks over at me and pulls me in for a kiss. His hands are yanking at my hair.

“You’re fucking crazy,” I say, laughing, pulling away from him. “We need to get the fuck out of here.”

“Don’t you think we should make sure the place burns down?” he asks.

I pull my lip between my teeth. It’s risky to sit here, but then again, I want to make sure the hell hole burns.
