“I wantto fuck you so bad,” he growls in my ear.

“So do it.”

He grabs my hand, and we head to a dark corner of the club. I wouldn’t have cared if he took me right there on the dance floor at this point.

After a quick fuck, with only a few people staring as they walk by, he helps me get my dress situated.

“I’m gonna run to the bathroom. I’ll meet you back at the booth.” He pulls me in for a kiss and I watch him walk back upstairs towards our table.

After I freshen up in the bathroom, I push on the door and head out into the dark hallway. I feel a hand latch onto my arm, and before I can scream, another hand is covering my mouth. I’m being pulled into a dark room, trying unsuccessfully to break away.

“I’m glad I got you alone for a minute.” Even though the room is pitch black, I know that voice is Chet’s.

“What are you doing?” I hiss.

He shoves me up against a shelf and I hear bottles of alcohol rattling. We must be in some type of supply closet.

His rough hands make their way down my body, and I fight the urge to throw up. “I’ve been wanting to touch you again since I saw you. Did you think I wouldn’t remember a piece of ass like you?”

My body stiffens. I’m definitely at a disadvantage in this situation. “Get your fucking hands off me.”

“Don’t act like you don’t want this. You wanted it back then, and you want it now. You were the first virgin pussy I ever had, and I’ve been dreaming about you ever since.” His mouth is next to my ear, and I feel his tongue flick out and run across my earlobe.

There’s not a chance in hell I’m letting this guy touch me again. I swiftly bring my knee up and straight into his balls.

“You fucking bitch!” he spits.

I shove him off and run out of the closet, pushing my way through people crowded in the hallway. I run right into a hard body and I’m instantly at ease.

“Belle? What’s wrong? Are you okay?” Maddox grips my arms and searches my face. Thankfully, it’s so dark in here he can’t see the tears forming in my eyes.

“Yeah. I’m fine. I’m just not feeling well,” I lie. If he doesn’t believe me, he doesn’t call me out on it.

“Do you wanna go home? I’ll call us a cab. I don’t know where Chet is, but I can just text him and let him know we left.” I know where Chet is, but I’m not telling him what just happened back there.

“Yes. I’d like that.” He wraps an arm around my shoulders, and instead of fighting him like I normally would, I lean into him––surprising myself just as much as I surprise him.

“Let’s go home.”

I’m going to have to do something about Chet. I can’t live my life here constantly looking over my shoulder and I can’t tell Maddox about my past with him. I don’t want Maddox to kill him, it needs to be me.

“You sure you’re okay?” Maddox’s voice pulls me away from my thoughts. I need to pull it together.

“Yeah. I’m fine. Just ready to lay down.” Lies. It’s so easy to lie.

After we both crawl into bed, sleep comes easily for Maddox, but my mind is racing. All I can see is Chet’s face.

I don’t know when I finally drift off, but it feels like I only slept a few minutes when I open my eyes the next morning.

The spot next to me is empty, but in typical Maddox fashion, he’s left me a note letting me know he had to go into the office and that he’ll see me later.

I’m working my first shift at Firefly tonight. I’ll have to call him later and tell him it won’t be until early morning when I see him. After I shower and eat, I spend the rest of the afternoon lounging around the house, trying not to look out the windows, panicking that Chet might show up.

“Hey, baby.” Maddox’s voice on the other end of the phone immediately calms me. I hate that. I feel weak.

“Hey. I just wanted to remind you that my first shift is tonight. I probably won’t be home until after three.”

“Shit, I forgot. Alright. I’ll try and wait up for you. If I’m asleep, wake me up when you get in.”
