“What is your problem?” he asks.

“What’s my problem? You’re my problem. Filling my head with all these pretty words so you can fuck me and then act like it didn’t happen the next day. I’m sick and fucking tired of this back and forth with you. I don’t have the energy for it.”

“Sophie…” He says my name like it breaks his heart to even speak it.

“I said don’t call me that.”

“Let me explain,” he says, and I brush him off, putting my hand up in his face.

“Why would I do that? So you can fill my head with lies? So the king of Kings can feel like a big man? I’m through with you and your bullshit. I’ll be out of here as soon as I fucking can be. I can’t wait to get away from you.”

I walk off towards the stairs. I’m three steps up when I hear him call after me.

“This isn’t over,” he growls, and clearly the minutes of him feeling sorry for me have passed.

He’s back to his usual self.

“Good to see the real Knox Kingston is still in there,” I say before making my way to my bedroom and slamming the door behind me.

I hear the front door slam, and the house seems to shake when Knox leaves in a rage. Good. I hope he’s just as pissed off as I am. I’m sick and tired of the people in my life pushing me around.

It’s about time Sophia Turner stands up for herself.

Chapter 9

Knox

Whatever this infatuation is that I have with Sophia has to end here. It’s clear to me that we can’t be around each other without going at each other’s throats. I’m not used to her standing up for herself like that, and while it pissed me off that she was talking to me that way, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t turn me on.

When I saw her in the car, her head on the steering wheel as if she were asleep, my heart ached. The thought that she would rather sleep in her car then face walking into my home made me approach her. I didn’t expect the backlash I got for my concern though. Although, I guess I should have.

Nothing gets me harder than Sophia telling me how much she can’t stand me.

“Where are you going?” Kane asks, moving out of my way.

I was so pissed off I didn’t even realize anyone else was here.

“I need to get out of the house for a while,” I tell him, stomping towards my truck.

“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” he asks, and I turn on my heels to glare at him.

He puts his hands up in defense.

“Whoa. Sorry I asked,” he says, shaking his head and walking inside.

I slam my truck door, peeling out of the driveway when my phone rings.

Now is not the time for a conversation with my father.

“Hello?”

“I need you down at the office as soon as possible,” he says without greeting.

“Why?”

“Don’t ask questions, Knox. Do as you’re told.”

Silence fills the truck when he hangs up.
