“We will,” I snap back, grabbing James’ hand and pulling him inside.

When we walk inside, Cam has the music up, arms in the air, dancing around the living room. I wish I could live as carefree as she does. She makes everything look so beautiful. She doesn’t worry about anything; just lives the life she wants to live.

I’m envious of that. What it must feel like to not over analyze everything.

“Come here, Charlie,” she says, arms open wide.

I giggle, dropping James’ hand and running over to her. We dance like that for a few minutes, not a care in the world. Just enjoying the music.

“Baby, let’s finish what we started.” James comes up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist, whispering in my ear.

I glance over my shoulder and notice Cole leaning against the counter in the kitchen. His eyes could burn a hole into my body. The girl next to him is talking, but he isn’t listening to a word she’s saying. It’s like the two of us are having a conversation that no one else can hear.

His eyes leave mine as he turns his attention back to the girl he’s with. He leans down to whisper something in her ear, his hands traveling up her back.

She giggles, grabs his hand, and he leads her down the hallway towards his bedroom.

I feel my heart drop to my stomach. I don’t know what I was thinking. Nothing is ever going to happen between Cole Garrett and me. It can’t. It’s forbidden and he’d never want me.

“Come on,” I tell James, grabbing his hand, leading him down the hall.

Once we make it to my room, I close the door behind us. James pushes me up against the wall, kissing me forcefully. I allow the kiss to go on for a few more minutes before pushing him off.

“I’ll be right back,” I tell him, walking towards the bathroom.

I shut the door behind me and face the mirror. The girl looking back at me doesn’t feel like the real me at all. I’m not the girl that brings some random guy home from the club. I don’t think I can go through with this.

I walk back out, fully prepared to break the news to James. Instead, I find him passed out in my bed. Sighing, I lean against the door frame, crossing my arms. Thank God I left him out here. I would have been disappointed had he passed out in the middle of the first sex I’ve had in a long time.

I pull an oversized T-shirt from my bag, throwing it on. I’m dying of thirst and there’s no way in hell I’m crawling into bed with this guy right now.

I quietly close the door behind me, tiptoeing down the hall. The house is dark and quiet. I’m bent down grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge, when someone comes up behind me, gripping my waist.

“What the fuck?” I jump up, dropping the bottle on the floor.

“What are you doing, princess?”

Cole.

His voice sends shivers down my body. I can feel the goosebumps rising on my skin. His fingers are digging into my waist, gripping the fabric of my T-shirt. I briefly wonder what it would feel like if that were bare skin he was gripping onto.

I shove him away before my traitorous body gets any ideas.

“What the fuck are you doing? You scared me,” I whisper, trying to steady my erratic breathing.

“I walked into the kitchen and there was an ass in the air, what did you expect me to do?” He smirks, leaning against the counter in the kitchen, his eyes traveling down my body.

“What if I had been your sister?” I point out.

“Trust me, I knew you weren’t my sister.”

“What are you even doing out here?” I ask, ignoring his response.

“I was thirsty.” He shrugs, walking around me, grabbing a drink from the fridge.

“Well, as much fun as this was, I’m heading back to my room,” I say, turning on my heels, ready to get the hell out of here.

I feel his hand latch onto my wrist. “Not so fast, princess,” he says, spinning me around, backing me up against the counter.
