“I’m sure they’ll find their way out here eventually.” She waves her hand.

The warm sunshine and the wind whipping through my hair on the way to shore is therapeutic. One day, I want to buy my own boat and live a life full of travel. I want to find someone that wants to get out of Louisiana as much as I do.

“Girl, you need a drink. I’ve never known you to be so distracted.” Cam laughs, putting her hand on my shoulder.

“You’re right. I could use something strong.” I laugh.

The island is packed with bodies. Most of the people have abandoned their boats and made their way to the beach. There is a DJ out in the middle of the sand and a makeshift tiki bar up on a hill. Cam grabs my hand, pulling me towards the bar.

“I’ll take a margarita,” she says, winking at the cute bartender.

“And for you, ma'am?” He turns in my direction after winking back at Cam.

“I’ll have the same.” He nods, turning his back on us to start making our drinks.

“Do you think it’s odd we haven’t been carded once since we’ve been here?” I ask.

“No. We have money. People don’t care what you do when you have money,” she points out.

It’s sad but true. They don’t even bat an eye at us when we pull up in a giant yacht.

The bartender hands us our drinks and we make our way out to the middle of the beach. The two of us tend to gravitate towards the music when we go places.

Three margaritas later and Cam has wandered off with some random guy she’s been dancing with for the last half hour. I haven’t seen Tyler or Cole since we got here, and it should be a good thing, but I can’t help but notice the disappointment I’m feeling.

I glance down, noticing my drink is empty, so I head back up to the bar. I’ve made friends with Gio, the bartender, now. He moved to Mexico when his wife died and hasn’t looked back since. He said his life is a lonely one, but he meets some of the most interesting people every day.

“Another, Charlotte?” he asks when I walk up to the bar.

“Yes, please,” I say with a wide grin.

The alcohol is clearly making an appearance now. I don’t remember the last time I drank so much. I’m not sure if it was the conversation with my mom or what happened with Cole that led me here tonight, but either way, I’m glad to feel numb for a little while.

“I’ve been looking for you everywhere.” My body stiffens at the sound of his voice.

If I thought I was going to have a night without Cole Garrett, I was sadly mistaken.

“Go away, Cole,” I warn, sipping on my drink.

“Where’s the fun in that?” He smirks, and I turn away before he can try and pull me in with those eyes.

“I don’t want to have any fun with you,” I snap.

“You were singing a different tune last night. You remember? When I had my dick inside you, and you begged me for more.” His breath is on my neck now.

I wish I could say he disgusted me, but instead, I just feel the dampness in my panties.

He makes no mention of the sweet version of him that he allowed me to take a glimpse of late last night. I’m almost wondering if I dreamed it all.

“Fuck off.”

He laughs. This asshole actually has the nerve to laugh at me.

“You’re like my little plaything now, Charlie. When I want you, you’ll be there, ready and willing. I’d hate for my sister to find out what happened between us.” I turn to face him; he has a smirk on his face.

I’ve never wanted to punch someone so bad in my life.

“You wouldn't,” I say.
