“I’m coming.” I moan, capturing his lips with mine.

We come crashing down together. A mess of sweaty, slick bodies. I bite my lip to keep the tears from falling. When he pulls away, I immediately miss the feel of him.

“I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of you,” he says, his eyes still burning with lust.

I feel the heat fill my cheeks. When he says things like that, it’s easy to forget that I’m promised to someone else.

“Don’t get in your head. I’m going to figure out how to save you from this,” he says, a determined look in his eyes.

“Cole,” I say, sighing.

“Stop right there. Don’t worry about anything,” he says, making promises he’ll never be able to keep.

I don’t bother arguing with him, because I know it’s a losing game. He’s got his mind set on this, and even if I know it’s pointless, he doesn’t.

“Are you going to take the money from me?” I ask, hands on my hips.

“Why would I do that?” he asks, looking at me like I’m crazy.

“Because you’re expecting me to be okay with this, but you won’t accept help from me,” I point out.

“I don’t like this,” he says.

“Let me help you. I can and nobody has to know. It can stay between us,” I tell him. Like I would tell anyone anyway.

Who could I possibly tell?

“Okay,” he agrees reluctantly.

“Really?” I ask, shocked.

“Don’t make me regret this, please. You don’t know how hard this is for me,” he says, rubbing his hand over his face in frustration.

“I get it,” I tell him.

“So, what’s going on here?” I ask him, gesturing between the two of us.

“I want to be with you, Charlie. But I’m not delusional. I know it’s not that simple for you. Let’s take care of the obstacles we’ve got standing in our way before we make decisions on what we are and what we aren’t,” he says.

I don’t see any scenario that ends with the two of us being together, but I’m not going to tell him that. When, and if, Cam finds out about the two of us, then my life will go up in flames. I’ll be left with nobody. He’s not going to pick me over his sister when she makes him choose.

“Let’s get some sleep,” he says, offering up his hand.

He stops in front of my bedroom door when we get upstairs, pulling me close to him.

“I want to spend the night with you,” he says, pushing hair from my face.

“I want that too,” I tell him honestly, opening my door and pulling him inside.

This isn’t about sex anymore. We have amazing sex; we both know that. This is about being together.

I spend the night wrapped up in his arms, getting the best sleep I’ve ever had. It’s like being with him makes me forget everything that we have stacked against us. When I’m with him, I’m able to forget the world.

The next morning, he’s gone when I wake up. I don’t know if I expected him to stay and cuddle or what.

My phone rings on the nightstand––my mother. If I don’t answer, she won’t stop calling.

“Charlotte. Please tell me you aren’t still sleeping. It’s after ten in the morning.”
