“Shit.”

“Yeah.”

“Is she okay?”

“I think she’s going to be,” I tell him, and I really believe that.

“All right, well, thanks for being there for her. I’ll be back in the morning,” he says.

“No problem, brother.”

I hang up and glance over at her, she’s sleeping peacefully, and I’m grateful for that.

After a few hours of painful sleep in the chair next to her, I’m up and down in the cafeteria, getting us both a coffee.

I know Marley likes an iced vanilla latte, and I’m more of a hot coffee kind of guy.

When I get back to her room, she’s sitting up in her bed, frowning.

“What’s wrong?”

“I thought you left without saying bye.”

“I went to get you an iced latte,” I tell her, handing her a drink.

“You’re an angel.” She sighs.

I laugh, sitting down next to the bed.

“Hardly.”

“How’d you know what I like?” she asks.

“I know a lot of things, beauty,” I say, and she flashes me the most beautiful smile in return.

There’s a knock on the door, and then Mitch and Delaney walk in.

“How are you feeling?” Delaney asks immediately.

“Much better,” Marley says, smiling.

“You look better,” Mitch says. “Has the doctor been in yet?”

“Not yet, the nurse told me it should be anytime,” I say.

At the mention of the doctor, there’s another knock on the door.

“I’d say you guys got here right on time.” Marley laughs.

The doctor peeks her head inside. “Looks like the gang is all here,” she says, smiling.

“We’re hoping you’re going to let us break her out of here,” Mitch says.

“I am,” she says, smiling.

“What’s the plan?” Marley asks, adjusting herself in the bed.
