“Fuck no. I’m just looking out for you.”

“That was Justin. He’s here for the weekend with his friends, and it turns out, he goes to the same college as me,” I tell him.

“He looked like a fucking douchebag.” He scoffs, continuing his walk towards the house.

I almost have to run to catch up.

“That’s a stupid fucking thing to say. You don’t even know him,” I say, adjusting my bag on my shoulder.

Clark looks over before grabbing the bag from me, throwing it over his shoulder.

“What are you doing?”

“Helping. Is that a problem?”

“You’re confusing,” I tell him, making him laugh.

“That’s not the first time I’ve heard that one.”

“Do you enjoy messing with people’s heads?” I ask.

“Only yours.” He smirks, dropping my bag on the front porch before walking inside.

I scowl at him, before reaching down to grab the bag.

Clark gives me whiplash. One minute he’s sweet, and the next he’s an asshole. It’s hard to keep up, honestly.

I walk through the back door into the kitchen. Riley is standing in the middle of the kitchen, scowling at me.

“Do we have a problem?” I stop and ask her.

I’m getting tired of the high school bullshit. I don’t even really know this girl.

“Do we need to have a problem?” she bites back.

“I don’t even know you. I’m not sure why you have this vendetta against me, but you may as well get over it,” I say, before walking past her.

“If you touch him, I’ll kill you,” she warns, making me freeze on the spot.

“Excuse me?”

“I said, if you touch him, I’ll kill you. I’ve known Clark for a long time. He’s been mine for a long time. I’ll be damned if some little girl is going to come in and try and take him away from me.”

“Let’s get one thing straight. I don’t give a flying fuck what you say. If I wanted Clark, I’d go for it. Lucky for you, I don’t. I’ve known him my whole life. A lot longer than you’ve been around. If you ever speak to me like that again, in one of my houses, I’ll show you the fucking door,” I tell her, before turning on my heels and walking down the hallway.

She’s got some fucking nerve. I stomp into my bedroom, slamming the door shut behind me. Flopping down on my bed, I sigh, grateful to finally be alone for a few minutes.

“Mar, you in there?” There’s knocking on my door, waking me up from the nap I didn’t even realize I’d taken.

“Yeah. I’m here,” I call out.

Delaney comes inside, a huge smile on her face.

“Why aren’t you ready?” she asks, her smile dropping to a frown.

“Ready for what?”
