It’s been several weeks since I’ve seen Marley or Mitch. I finished all the construction work in his new house, and I just ended up spending the week there. It was much easier to work that way. Not to mention, I needed the break. I needed to get as far away from Marley as I could, especially if I’m going to be fucking proposing to Riley by the end of the year.

Mitch is on his way here, to check everything out. Marley is heading to college tomorrow, and he’s hoping that by the end of next week, if not before, he’ll be on his way out of Spencer’s house too.

“Hey, man,” Mitch says, walking in, pulling me from my thoughts.

“What’s up?” I walk over, slapping my hand against his.

“This looks fucking amazing. Honestly, when you said you were interested in construction, I didn’t realize you were this talented,” he says, looking around the room in awe.

“I’ve taught myself a lot,” I admit.

“Well, it looks great. I think I’ll be able to move in sooner than I expected,” he says, smiling.

“I’ll help you get out as quickly as possible,” I tell him.

“What about you?” he asks.

“What about me?”

“Where are you going to go?”

“I’ll rent an apartment.”

“Don’t be stupid.”

“What do you mean?” I ask.

“You should move in, too. I’ll be here alone in a three-bedroom house. You can pay rent if it will make you feel better.”

He’s got a good point. It would be smart to move in. I’d hate to find a place to rent when I’ll be moving out in less than six months after I propose to Riley.

“All right, man. Sure. I appreciate it,” I tell him.

“Fuck yeah. This is going to be awesome,” he says.

I don’t have the heart to tell him that I won’t be here that long.

“Hey, can I ask you a favor?” Mitch asks.

“Anything,” I tell him.

“Can you help me move Marley and Delaney tomorrow.”

I tense up at his words. If I tell him no, he’ll think something is up. I just don’t know if I can be around Marley anymore.

“I’ve got a few things I need to do. I’m not sure I’ll have the time.” I tell him, desperate to come up with any excuse not to be around her.

“Is it something you cancel? I don’t really have anyone else to call,” he frowns.

Internerally, I’m screaming that this is a terrible idea, but this is Mitch and I’d do anything for him.

“Sure. Of course.”

“Thanks, man. She’s got almost everything packed up. She and Delaney are moving Delaney’s stuff to our house tonight to make it easier. We’ll need to be on the road by about seven.”

“Okay, I’ll be there,” I tell him.

I guess all the hard work I’ve done avoiding Marley will be for nothing.
