I’m getting worried.

I’m stopping by.

I’m here, where are you?

I called the hospital, you aren’t there.

Are you dead?

Margot, this isn’t funny.

I’m serious, where the hell are you?

Are you ignoring me?

What the fuck, Margot. You’re supposed to be different.

Why are you playing games? You’re just like the rest.

I’m stopping by again.

Where are you? I can’t find you.

I can’t believe this. You chose him.

Did you fuck him?

Lose my number. I’m done with this.

Look, I’m sorry about that. Call me when you’re home.

My skin crawls as I read the messages. My head feels fuzzy, unable to think clearly. Even though I know that I’m going to have to deal with the crazy coming from Ray, all I want to do is sleep some more.

I would have gone to sleep if someone hadn’t started knocking on my door repeatedly.

“Ugh, go away,” I whisper to myself.

“Hoe. You better open the damn door or I’m going to have to break in. I made Brian show me how to pick locks, and I’m not afraid to do it either.”

“The door is unlocked!” I scream before covering my head with blankets. When the door opens, I peek out from under my nest.

Maya walks in, but she isn’t alone. Behind her is Poppy, and the redhead is carrying bags of food.

“We’re having girls’ night. Well, technically day. But then night too. We brought jam jams. And you’re going to enjoy it. Because it was a pain to get the day off after Brian decided to cover for Jake so he could stay with you. And then you came home, so Jake went into work and sent Brian home. So here I am. And I brought company.” Maya looks at me on the couch and sighs. “I guess you need to get the margaritas, Poppy. And maybe call backup.”

“No problem!” the other woman calls from where she is putting the food in the kitchen. “I’ll get everyone over here.”

“You guys,” I groan. “I don’t want a bunch of people here. I feel like crap and I just want to sleep.”

“Tough cookies, twat-waffle!” Poppy calls through the house. “Jake called Maya and ratted your punk-ass out. Now you’re stuck with us. So deal with it. At least I brought wine.” She walks back into the living room while looking at her phone.

Maya plops down onto the couch and starts pulling my blankets away. I grab them to prevent the other woman from winning. I kick out with my feet and connect with some part of Maya, and I flip myself onto the floor in an attempt to keep my blankets.

“Let go, you cow. Give me back my blankets!” I shriek and then try to scramble up out of the pile I’m tangled in.

Unfortunately for me, Maya is quicker and jumps on top of me, wrapping her body around me. “Give up. And apologize. Whore.” She grunts against my struggling body. “Give up, you’re not getting loose. I have two preteens at home. You don’t stand a chance.”

“Fine. Fine.” I huff and wheeze, unable to fight anymore. “I’m hurt. You’re taking advantage of me.”
