“He tends to be a man of few words,” I say and let myself out the doors onto the patio.

“Rehab? Like in the movies in an institution rehab?”

“Yeah, except the bougie kind with an organic chef and a personal trainer. And a hell of a confidentiality agreement.”

“Good, because Excel didn’t accept your walking away. They want to keep you. And not the rehab plan Emberleigh suggested, either. By the way, did she tell you they liked her idea so much they hired her? She’s seriously good.”

She is. “No, she didn’t. I’ll give her grief this weekend though, since she’ll be at the house.”

“Back to you, they want to maintain the partnership, though you won’t be front and center of their new campaign.”

“That’s good to hear. Will you set up a meeting with them in person if we can make it happen in the next couple of weeks? I have an idea that I think they’ll be interested in.”

“I will, but you know I’m not your agent anymore, right?”

“Are you willing to take on a consultant’s role with appropriate fees as I transition to average Joe?”

He barks a laugh. “Average Joe. At least your humor is still intact. You sound good, brother.”

“I feel good. Sorry for accusing you of being a really adept dealer. I should’ve known you aren’tthatgood.”

“Shut up. And apology accepted. I hope they catch the fucker who was doping you.”

“Working on it. That’s my next call. Talk soon?”

“Yeah. Have a great day.”

I disconnect and read through the thread Elias renamedTeam Takedownwithin twenty-four hours of my arrival at Natomas Hills. It seems things are coming to a head everywhere.

Me:What do you need from me? What can I do?

Eli:Everything is in place. Exton got everything done before Willa delivered. Now it’s a matter for the alphabets. We should know soon, though.

Me:Why are you up at this hour?

Eli:Your sister has a ridiculous schedule.

Me:It runs in the family.

Exton:{pic attached}

Exton:The dude and I are up because he decided he doesn’t need sleep.

Me:I like the nightlife.

Eli:He likes to boogie?

Exton:No sleep + ear worm… Just you wait.

Me:I’ll believe it when I see it.

Exton:My buddy in DC says it could be as early as this weekend.

Me:Happy birthday to me!

Exton:See you Monday.

Eli:See you then.
