I look at him with a deadpan expression. "No one is upstairs. I wouldn't do that to Cassidy.”

Antonio doesn't say anything, but that's okay. I have enough to say for the both of us. “If I remember correctly, you said we were done, right? You wanted absolutely nothing to do with me, and then you show up on my doorstep. I don’t need any more of your fists slamming into my face. So please, Antonio, tell me. To what do I deserve this honor?”

Antonio has it coming. He thought he could get away with snatching the one woman I'd ever loved. But I’m not backing down this time. The day he took Cassidy was the day he made an enemy out of me. I'm not on his good side, and he’s not on mine.

I'm sure the fire in Antonio's eyes matches mine.

“Do you ever just shut the fuck up and listen?” Antonio snaps.

"Like the way you listened to me when you were busy beating my ass?" I can see that he is fuming, but so am I. "The only reason I let you get so many punches off is that I considered you a friend."

He scoffs. "Friends don't do what you did."

"She's a grown woman."

Antonio's jaw tightens, and I know he wants to knock me out.If I want to get Cassidy back, arguing with her father certainly isn't the way to go about it. What was I doing?

“You know what? Maybe I should just whoop your ass again,” Antonio sneers.

“Sure why not, I don’t think the first time got the point across.”

“Have you always been this much of a jackass?”

I shake my head and try to cool the anger within me. “Antonio, I know you disapprove of Cassidy and me, but the fact remains that I care about her. I know how you feel, but I won't let anyone stand in my way of being with her. Not even you." I look at him in earnest. "Despite what has happened between us, I have a lot of respect for you. What happened between Cassidy and me wasn't meant to anger you." I scrub my hand over my face. "It just happened, and I don't regret it."

He lets out a deep breath. “I can’t believe you’re the father of my grandchild.”

“Yeah, well…” I stop talking and blink at him. "Wait. What did you just say?"

"She's pregnant, asshole. And you can guess who the father is," he says, shoving my shoulder.

I know it's me because I was Cassidy's first, although I won’t tell Antonio that. I don’t have a death wish.

"Why didn't she tell me herself?"

"I blocked you on her phone."

I grab my blazer. "Real mature, Antonio." I head to the door. "I have to go see Cassidy."

He shakes his head. "Don't do anything stupid. My daughter's happiness is my priority."

I answer back, "It's mine as well!"

Cassidy

Asmyphonevibratescontinuously, a chill runs down my spine. I don't need to check the caller ID, I already know it's Ivan. Just days ago, all I longed for was for him to call me. Now, he decides to blow up my phone. I wonder what Dad told him.

I wasn't in the frame of mind to answer his call, considering my father had already taken it upon himself to notify Ivan about me being pregnant without asking for my permission. I was naive enough to think he would come here and take me away with him so we could create a life together... But as I should have expected, he didn't appear at all.

You can't avoid this any longer.I tell myself as I run my hands through my hair.

I release an exasperated sigh, bracing myself for this inevitable conversation. It is too late to turn back now; our time together has been laid bare, and soon its fruit will be on full display. I place my hand on my stomach.

When I answer the call, my heart sinks. I know what Ivan will say: he doesn't want anything to do with this baby - just one more mistake that he can throw money at and forget about. As much as I don't wish to hear it, there's no other way around it.
