Antonio asks me as we assemble the plates, “Are you about to do it? Now’s as good a time as any to pop the question.”
I nod. My hands shake as I pull out the velvet box from my pocket. I went to a local jeweler for a custom ring. I want Cassidy to have a ring like no other because she is one in a million. I'm nervous and slightly shaky, but I'm ready. It's time I make Cassidy officially mine.
“Yes, I am.” I open the box to show Antonio.
He stares at the ring and then looks up at me with a strong yet gentle expression in his eyes. He gives me a firm nod and a tight smile as if he were giving us his silent blessing.
"Thanks," I say before we look back at the ring.
The diamond glitters and shines in the light. It's perfect, just like her. I smile at Antonio and return to where Cassidy is waiting for me.
I walk from the kitchen on shaky legs. Antonio is behind me, carrying the plates. I take a deep breath and try to calm my nerves.
When I enter the living room, Cassidy looks up at me with love in her eyes. Her lips part slightly as she takes in my expression. She can sense something is off but doesn't know what it is yet. With a smile, I get down on one knee and take her hands in mine.
My heart races as I look into her eyes, and my voice trembles slightly when I speak. "Cassidy, I knew we were meant to be from the moment we met. I fought it and fought it, but my heart would not let you go. You are my everything and more than I could ever ask for. I thought no woman could get me to change my ways until I met you."
Tears well in her eyes.
"You’re the most annoying and stubborn person I’ve ever met, but it makes me love you even more. I want to spend today and all the rest of my days with you and raise a family. Will you marry me?"
The room fills with anticipation as she stares at the diamond ring. Her lips quiver, and her voice trembles when she speaks. "Yes! Yes, I will marry you!"
I let out a sigh of relief, and I put the ring on her finger, and she jumps on my knee.
“It’s about time you asked!” She shrieks.
I stand up with Cassidy in my arms and turn to Antonio, who has tears clouding his eyes. He offers us a warm, approving smile as I kiss Cassidy’s lips.
We all hug, and it feels like I'm finally whole. Cassidy is the woman I needed to change my life. My playboy days are over and I’m never looking back at that past again.
"I love you," I tell her.
"I love you too," Cassidy returns with happy tears in her eyes.
We look into each other's eyes, and I finally know what it feels like to be genuinely in love. We are starting a new chapter of our lives together, and the possibilities are endless.
