"It looks like a faulty spark plug," I tell her. "I can call for a tow truck and get it taken to an auto shop I know."

"Oh, there's no need for that," she says, looking embarrassed.

"It’s no problem," I reply. "It won't take much for them to fix it. It's the least I can do."

The woman looks up at me, her blue eyes wide with surprise. "You don't have to do that," she says hesitantly.

"I insist," I reply, my voice firm but kind.

She still looks unsure but finally nods and accepts the offer.

I call the tow truck company I've used before and direct them to the garage. I ask for her number, pass it to the towing company, and make a mental note to give it to the repair garage.

"They are going to take care of it, and you will get a call from Diego on Monday when the repairs are done." I look at the car. "Let's get your groceries and other items out of the car. I'll give you a ride home."

She arches a brow at me.

"I'm just a good Samaritan. No ulterior motive. I promise."

She relaxes a bit. "Okay."

We transfer her bags to my car and get in. Her scent of lavender fills the air around me as we load the things into the car.

"You paint?" I ask as I put a bag of art supplies into the car.

"Yeah, I love painting." She points to the bag, "Those are the supplies I take to the daycare. They don't have much money and can't afford a lot of supplies." Her face lights up. "The kids love painting, and I love teaching them."

I look at her with admiration. I can tell she has a kind heart and loves to help people.

She tucks a lock of hair behind her ear. "I'm Quinn."

"Ezra."

We shake hands, and the warmth of her touch sends a shiver of desire through me. I clear my throat and say, "Let's get you home."

We drive in silence, but the tension between us is palpable. I can feel my heart racing as I steal glances at her. I haven't felt drawn to a woman in years, but there is no way I can act on it. She's too young and is in a vulnerable place.

I pull in front of a small home with a well-maintained garden. The sidewalk is cracked, and the paint on the house is faded and chipped, but the flowers in the garden give it a homey feel.

"This is me," she says with a smile. Her smile knocks my breath away. "Thank you for all your help tonight."

"It was my pleasure.”

I help her take the items to the front porch. "Take care of yourself, Quinn."

She opens her mouth to say something but changes her mind. She gives me a small wave, and I return to my car.

As I drive away, I feel a strange pull towards her. It's a feeling that I thought had been locked away forever.

Unqualified

Quinn

"Ican'tbelieveIhad to have some guy rescue me," I say as I deliver another kick to the bag.

Kate looks over at me and shakes her head. "You were in a tough spot, Quinn. I mean, what were you supposed to do? Anything could have happened to you in that parking lot."

I sigh and lean against the bag. "I know. It's just embarrassing, you know? And this Ezra guy, he was so nice. He paid for everything and then offered to take me home."
