I nodded, feeling a little guilty that I didn't know for sure. But it wouldn't matter. If Johanna thought he did all right, I’d defer to her expertise and would support Mikael’s being part of the press conference tomorrow.

“Thank you for this. I owe you,” Todd said to Johanna.

“Of course. It was good to see you. We should get a drink.” Johanna’s eyes perused Todd’s body. “We could catch up.”

My hands fisted, either to keep from scratching her eyes out or ready to punch her.

He gave her a noncommittal nod. “Sure. I can’t now, but give me a call.”

“I will.”

“We need to go.” I tugged on Mikael’s arm to escort him out so I didn’t lunge at the woman trying to take the man I wanted but couldn’t have.

"We have a drink now?" Mikael asked me.

"Not right now, but maybe another time." I glanced at Todd, wondering what he’d think of my having a drink with Mikael. He arched a brow, but he didn't seem concerned or jealous.

We exited the station.

"You take it easy tonight, Mikael. You've got a big game tomorrow,” Todd said.

Mikael saluted him and then went to get into the car that Todd had arranged to bring him here to Las Vegas and now back to Henderson.

Todd opened the door to the car he'd arranged for us, and I slid into the backseat.

“If you want to have a drink with her, I can make other arrangements.” See, I could act like I didn’t care whether he went with Johanna.

He shrugged. “Not tonight.”

Ugh. I looked out the window as our driver pulled away from the curb. I desperately wanted him to tell me that he wasn’t into her. I hated him for making me feel like this, even though the circumstances were of my own making.

We drove, and I was practically biting my tongue to keep from asking questions about Joanna.

"She's a beautiful, intelligent woman. I'm surprised you let her get away." Dammit.

Todd looked at me, and I swore there was amusement in his eyes. He shrugged. "Maybe."

God. What was wrong with me that I was still hoping for an answer that indicated he wasn’t interested in her? I wanted him to say something like she was a raving lunatic or vapid or boring.

"Well, it doesn't look like you've missed your chance. She seems interested."What the hell is wrong with me? Shut up, Betts.

He leaned over, and his expression confirmed that he was amused by me. "If I didn't know any better, Betts, I’d think you were jealous."

“Jealous? Me? Why would I be jealous?"

He winced and straightened. "Ouch."

I looked at him with confusion. "Why would that hurt you when you have someone like Johanna eager to see you?”

His dark eyes were intense, as if he was trying to look through to my soul. "I guess I should be grateful that at least she remembers how good it was."

Ouch.

"You easily pushed our time together away, Miss Professionalism. No one would ever have a hint about the time we spent together. Hell, I’m beginning to wonder if it really happened."

What the hell is he talking about?"You don't think I remember that?"

He shrugged. "It doesn't seem like it. But that's what you wanted, right?"
