We led them back to the main house and then showed them to their private bungalows that had been a part of the purchase of the island.

Once they were all settled in, they joined us at the main house out on the large lanai where we had arranged to have lunch. Dean and David joined us, eager to eat and get back to the beach.

"This is fantastic," Bo said. "Do you have an extra skim board? I'd love to give that a try."

"You might want to wear knee and elbow guards," I quipped.

Dean rolled his eyes, but everyone else laughed.

"You know, I could afford an island,” Reed said to his wife, Analyn.

"Maybe you should buy one,” she answered.

Lunch was filled with chatter and laughter, and I was again reminded of what a lucky son of a bitch I was.

The sound of a helicopter beat overhead, causing all of us to stop talking and look up.

Betts smirked at me. "He always has to make an entrance, doesn’t he?"

I nodded as I rose from my seat. "Excuse me. We have one more guest to welcome."

I made my way down the beach and then through the pathway toward the landing pad the previous owner had built. I waited as the helicopter landed and Levi emerged.

He came over, giving me a hug. "So this is what you did with that money you won from me?"

“Yes. Come and say hello to everyone."

We walked together back toward the house. "You know, I thought you were pressing your luck by taking on that last bet with me. I can't believe after everything, the Silver Nuggets won again. That has to be the biggest payoff from a gamble you've ever received."

I shook my head. "No, my biggest payoff on a gamble was in giving my heart to Betts and living this dream."

He looked at me like I had said something schmaltzy, which I had. But it was the truth.

He laughed. "That reminds me. I have something else for you."

He reached into his pack and pulled out a six-inch tall trophy with a man and a woman holding hands. I read the plaque.

Best Family Man

I laughed. "This was well-earned."

We arrived back at the house, and I showed Betts the trophy.

Betts laughed. "What a great prize."

I shook my head and took her into my arms. "You are the best prize." I bent her over and kissed her, hearing all my friends say “aww” except, of course, for Dean, who made gagging sounds.

Levi was probably right. I was pressing my luck to take his second bet. There was no reason to think the team would have a successful season, much less win the championship the second year in a row. But whether I’d won the bet or not, it had brought me close to Betts. The moment she told me she was mine and I was hers, I’d achieved all the excitement, adventure, and success I could ask for.
