If he was offended that I’d treated his hand like he had the plague, he didn't show it. "Grab your purse and we’ll head out."

I got my purse from the bottom drawer and followed him out of the marketing area to the elevator.

“Where are we going?" I asked as he poked the button to the ground floor.

"To the rink. There's something I want you to see there.”

He could have done this yesterday or tomorrow since both of those days, I was at the rink. Was he being difficult on purpose? Nah. Men like Todd didn’t think about the schedules of others, especially his subordinates. We were going because it was convenient for him. My timetable didn’t matter.

I let out a sigh but didn’t say anything as I remembered the line about not biting the hand that feeds you.

We reached the lobby and exited the elevator, and I followed him through the building and out to an SUV waiting at the curb. He held the door open as I got in, and then he slid in next to me. The driver pulled away from the curb and started the drive down to Henderson.

"So, what is this new marketing idea that you have?" I asked.

Todd looked at me affably as he shook his head. "Nope. Like I said, I want you to see it first."

I gave a slight nod and turned my head to look out the window. This looked to be a long ride.

"Have you read any good books lately?" he asked. I turned my head to look at him, curious about the question. Once again, there was a gleam in his eye. "I have found that the library has very scintillating reading."

Oh, my God, he was referring to Naomi's wedding. The heat on my cheeks told me I was blushing, and I was annoyed to have had that reaction.

I quickly turned my head to look back out the window and murmured, "So you finally remember?"

"Remember? I never forgot."

When I looked back at him, my brow was arched, letting him know I didn't believe him.

He studied me for a moment and then leaned closer to me. "I might forget things that happen at work, but I never forget things that happen in the library." He used his index finger to point to his temple. "It's seared into my brain."

I couldn't deny the ego boost knowing that he hadn't forgotten, but it still didn't change the fact that he was my boss, and an irritating one at that.

"Besides, we were in a meeting, and it didn't seem like the appropriate time to mention it,” he finished.

I glanced at the driver and then back at Todd. "And now is?"

Todd laughed. “I think our secret is safe here." He cocked his head to the side. "You really thought that I had forgotten?"

"You forgot that you promoted me, so why wouldn't I think that you'd forgotten ... the library too?"

He leaned even closer to me, his deep brown eyes still twinkling and precariously close to ensnaring me. "You're not a woman someone forgets."

The praise boosted my ego again.

Todd gave me a wink and straightened in his seat, and I was relieved to have the extra space to pull my wits together again.

"But right now, we need to focus on the team."

Thank goodness, I thought. "I was beginning to think you lost interest."

"I suppose I had, but it's been recently reinvigorated. So, I've made some arrangements that involve redoing our marketing plan. Hence the ride to Henderson."

When we arrived, Todd led me to the rink where a single hockey player and the assistant coach, Connor Tolson, were doing drills on the ice.

"Connor,” Todd called out over the ice. “Can I talk to Mikael for a moment?”

Connor nodded to the hockey player, who skated over to us. The young man looked barely out of his teens. He had a boyish smile, and his cheeks were red from the cold of the ice. His pale blue eyes shone with excitement until he reached us, and then they did a thorough tour of my body that had me stepping back.
