Tomma chuckled. “London, dear, you always appear so innocent. Don’t even try to deny it. You want to make us think you got this lead role because of your talent? Ha! It’s because you’re sleeping with the producer. I know the truth, and let me tell you, tonight will be your last performance. So go ahead and sleep with whoever you want. I have things in motion, and soon no one will want to work with you.”

With that, Tomma sauntered out of my dressing room, leaving me feeling shaken and unsure.

Fuck Tomma. She had been spreading false rumors about me for weeks, trying to sabotage my career from the first time she saw me.

As I drew a deep breath, I tried to calm myself, but Tomma’s plan to ruin my career lingered in the back of my mind. Just then, Spencer walked in, his warm smile lighting up the room as he approached me.

“Good luck tonight, my love,” Spencer said, giving me a warm hug and a sweet kiss. “I just know you’re going to kill it out there.”

I smiled, grateful for his support. “Thanks, honey. Let’s hope so.”

“And, hey,” he continued, a twinkle in his eye. “After the show, I’ve got a little surprise planned for us. Something spicy, just for you.”

His words made me feel better, and I couldn’t help but smile. Despite my nerves, I was excited about the show and for what Spencer had in store for us later. Not wanting to cause any friction right before the show, I kept Tomma’s visit to myself. I wouldn’t let her words get to me and ruin my performance. I was determined to put on a great show, no matter what Tomma said or did.

Spencer left me alone to finish getting ready, and fifteen minutes later, when I made my way to the stage, I paused and pushed all thoughts of Tomma out of my mind. The lights were bright; the audience was buzzing with excitement, and I was ready. I was going to prove Tomma wrong and show her I was a talented actress who had earned my place in the spotlight.

Just then, Timothy stopped me. He looked upset and I could tell something was bothering him.

“Tomma just walked into my dressing room wearing nothing but a robe,” he said, his voice shaking with anger. “She dropped the robe and offered me that if I told Darrel that I wanted her as my co-star instead of you, she would return the favor in a big way.”

I wasn’t surprised. With Tomma, I should have suspected something like that.

“She’s lost her mind,” he said. “I don’t need her to get laid. And to be honest, I always preferred doing the scenes with you, not Tomma. And, hey! I never got to thank you for saving my sorry ass that day. That was a close call. Glad to see you’re okay again.”

With Timothy’s words ringing in my ears, I took the stage, determined to give the performance of my life. Tomma’s lies and manipulation had only made me more committed to prove her wrong.

I sang and acted with all my heart, giving it my all on stage, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment, despite not knowing the impact of my performance and if Tomma’s plan to ruin my career will be thwarted. But this was all I could do.

FIFTY-TWO

SPENCER

The theater was packed, the energy palpable as London and Timothy took the stage for the last duet of the show. I sat on the edge of my seat, my eyes fixed on London as she belted out the lyrics, her voice soaring through the auditorium. Timothy joined in, their voices melding together in perfect harmony. The audience erupted into applause as the song ended, and I found myself on my feet, cheering with the rest of the crowd.

But as the last notes died away, I still felt a pang of discontent shoot through me as London and Timothy shared a passionate kiss. “Stop it, Spencer. It is just acting,” I told myself.

Shaking off my apprehension, I made my way backstage to congratulate everybody. As I approached Timothy, he beamed at me, his eyes shining with excitement. “We did it, Spencer! That was amazing, wasn’t it?”

I smiled, pushing aside the jealousy that still lingered in my heart. “It was incredible. You two were really something up there. If I didn’t know better, I would almost believe it wasn’t an act.”

Timothy’s smile faltered a bit as he looked at me. “Are you okay with everything, Spencer? I mean, with the love scenes and all?”

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my emotions. “Of course, man. It’s just acting. I know that.”

Timothy nodded, looking relieved. “Good. I didn’t want to cause any problems between you and London.”

I shrugged. “No problems, Timothy. You just focus on the show, and let me worry about my own feelings.”

Timothy’s grin widened. “Thanks, man. I appreciate it. Listen, I need to talk to you about something.”

I braced myself, wondering what was coming. Timothy’s expression turned serious as he told me about Tomma’s advances towards him. My blood boiled. It was clear that Tomma was still trying to push London away, so she could take the spotlight. For too long, she was getting away with it.

As soon as the conversation was over, I stormed off to find Darrel. No one messes with my friends, and especially not my girlfriend. I needed to take action, and fast.

I marched straight to Darrel’s office, my heart pounding with a fierce determination.

“Darrel, we have a problem,” I declared. “Tomma’s been causing trouble.”
