She composed her face and took a delicate sip. “You know I’d never spill your secrets… but I am going to demand all the details. He has big hands. Is the rest of him proportional?”

“I don’t know. We didn’t have sex, remember?”

“There’s a lot of things you can do with a penis that don’t involve sex.”

“Well, in this case, he kept his pants on.” Not through lack of trying on my part, but I wasn’t going to mention how he refused my very generous offer.

Eva rolled her eyes. “Figures Shaw would be a good boy. I have a bet with Mac that he was a boy scout as a kid.”

I jumped on the chance to change the subject. “Couldn’t you just ask him?”

“Where’s the fun in that? The deal is we have to gethimto bring it up.”

I stared at her pixie-like face, sharp with amusement, and narrowed my eyes. “This is how you develop your dark magic, isn’t it?”

“If you’re referring to my ability to get people to tell me things… yes. You have to practice a skill to keep it sharp. Speaking of skills, at least tell me Shaw got you off.”

For once, I desperately wished I’d accepted the coffee so I’d have something to do besides talk. Warmth bloomed in my cheeks, but it wasn’t from embarrassment—it was from anticipation. She’d reminded me that Parker was probably waiting across the hall right now.

Eva’s gaze skimmed my face and she nodded. “He’s good with his hands.”

I dropped my head back with a sigh. “So fucking good.”

“I knew it,” she muttered. “You can report back about the rest tomorrow.”

“I’m supposed to be over there right now. Studying.”

She laughed. “Mhmm. Studying. Sure.”

“For real.” I explained about Professor Declann and the problems with my grade. “I agreed to work on the paper and study before the fun times.”

She whistled. “You’re a stronger woman than I am. Shaw is so pretty. If he offered, I’d ride his face until dawn. And don’t worry. If anyone asks, you spent the night here.”

I reached over to hug her, careful not to jostle her drink. “You’re a good friend, Eva.”

She squeezed me back. “That’s what they tell me. Now go enjoy Shaw’s talented… parts.”

Parker answeredhis door with a frown. “I thought I told you to come on in.”

I brushed past him, doing a quick scan of the living room. “At any given time, there’s at least a fifty percent chance Mac is lounging on the couch in his underwear.”

He shut the door and opened his arms to encompass the empty room. “Not today. He’s really proud of his underwear collection, by the way. Noah keeps finding him these crazy designs.”

“Are they here?”

The air thickened between us, but Parker didn’t move closer. “No. They decided to grab pizza at Johnny’s. Noah said they’d bring us some back.”

Pizza sounded good, and I suddenly realized I hadn’t eaten since lunch. “Are we sure Mac won’t inhale it all on the way home?”

Parker laughed. “He likes you, so he’ll at least put in a little effort. We can always order more.”

Silence descended, and we stood there, a room apart, staring at each other. I didn’t understand the awkwardness. Things were never awkward between us, and we were finally alone in a private space.

Was I supposed to kiss him? Did I want to? Why was he so far away? What should I do with my hands?

I chewed on my bottom lip, absolutely hating the indecision. “What’s happening right now?”
