I let her go. “Nice to see you too, sis.”

She smelled the shoulder of her hoodie as she hurried down the stairs, mumbling, “NowImight need to shower.”

A quick sniff test confirmed Jaina was right, as usual. I smelled like stale sweat and Riley’s sour cream and onion chips. Not a winning combo. As much as I wanted to hunt down Riley and suggest she join me in the shower, I detoured to the bathroom instead.

The bathrooms in our apartments were nice—they had hot water and good pressure—but my parents knew how to do luxury right. Namely, multiple body jets to work out the lingering soreness from a long time in the car.

The only thing that would make the experience better was my girlfriend naked and wet in there with me. I stroked my hard cock a couple of times, but why use my imagination when the woman herself waited for me downstairs?

I got clean in record time and hurried to the kitchen. As expected, Mom stood at the stove stirring her red sauce while Jaina pestered her with questions. Riley sat at one of the island stools, staring down at her phone with a crease between her brows.

My heart did a curious little flip at the sight of her—barefoot, blonde hair draped over her shoulder, fitting perfectly into the scene. I could see her here with me forever.

As if she sensed my eyes on her, Riley looked up and met my gaze. Heat flared between us like it always did, doing nothing to relieve my hard-on. I pushed away from the doorway, took her face in my hands, and kissed her.

From a distance, I heard a gasp, but I was busy savoring the taste of Riley. She wrapped her fingers around my wrist, holding tight as she kissed me back. I’d missed her when I woke up alone, missed her in the shower, and now that I had her in my hands again, I wasn’t sure I could let go long enough to eat dinner.

She sighed against my mouth, and I reluctantly pulled back.

“Hi,” I said quietly, brushing my nose against hers.

“Hi,” she replied with a grin.

My mom fanned herself with the potholder. “Jaina set the table in the dining room.”

Jaina’s brows drew together in surprise. “Why?”

“Because we have a guest, and I don’t want her to think we’re entirely without class. Also, I want to talk to Parker.”

Riley hopped off her stool, kissing my jaw as she passed. “I can help. Jaina, show me what to do.”

The two of them left the room giggling like they’d known each other forever. I took Riley’s seat and noticed the basket on the counter covered in a thin towel. My turn to be surprised.

“Did you bake bread?”

Mom sent me a look that questioned my intelligence. “Don’t be silly. I heated up frozen garlic bread and made it look pretty.”

Curious, I lifted the towel, but she smacked my hand away. “Wait until dinner.”

Bereft of a snack, I leaned back and crossed my arms over my chest. “Where’s Dad?”

She eyed me, then returned to the stove. “In his workshop. I’ll send Jaina to get him in a minute. First, reassure me you’re being responsible with her.”

Not Jaina. Riley. My mom was asking about my sex life. “Are you interfering again?”

“Yes. It’s part of my job description as your mother, but this is mostly for Riley’s sake.”

I relaxed a little at the direction of her protective instincts. “Yes. We’re being responsible.”

“Good. I’d hate to see you ruin that girl’s life because you’re messing around.”

“Since when is a baby the end of someone’s life? You didn’t quit grad school when you got pregnant with me, which you’ve told me many, manytimes.”

She rolled her eyes. “I’m pretty sure you can still play football if your girlfriend is pregnant. She doesn’t have that luxury.”

I leaned forward, completely serious. “I’m aware of that, and we’re being careful. She’s everything to me.”

“Good,” she repeated.
