Blue stopped and peeked at her watch before giving me her full attention again. “No. Everything in here is one of a kind. I can help you look for something else if you tell me the occasion.”

The offer surprised me since she seemed sort of inconvenienced at my presence in the shop. Then again, she’d seemed willing enough to talk before.

“It’s for a fancy alumni dinner hosted by the athletics department, but I think I’ll try this one on before looking for something else.”

Her brows drew together. “You’re an athlete?”

Under other circumstances, her disbelieving tone would have been offensive, but the confusion on her face made me think she simply didn’t have a filter. Or social skills of any kind. I kind of liked her brand of zero bullshit, so I took her at face value.

“No, I’m the arm candy for one of the football players. He cleans up nice, but he’s the most anti-social person I’ve ever met.” Except maybe the girl standing in front of me. “I’m there to make him look less feral so the university can schmooze more money out of the donors.”

Blue frowned. “That sounds horrible.”

I chuckled at her unfiltered comment. “It’s not so bad.”

She tucked a purple strand of hair behind her ear and adjusted the glasses sliding down her nose. “Statistically speaking, professional football players are among the top alumni most likely to donate back to their schools after graduating, but I suppose non-alumni donors are also more likely to give when presented with introductions to quasi-celebrities.”

This girl had a strange way of thinking about things. Before I could ask any of the questions circling my mind, the curtain rattled open next to us, and Eva shouted at me.

“Chloe, you’re a genius.”

Blue jumped, leading me to think she hadn’t known there were two of us in here.

Eva strolled out of the dressing room and struck a pose with her hands on her hips. “I love it. I love everything about it, and I’m never taking it off.”

I’d been right about her abs. The guys thought their stomachs were impressive, but Eva could put them to shame. Her core was sheer muscle, which the cut-outs in the dress highlighted.

“I’m thinking a big dramatic braid and shoes that lace up my calves.” Eva turned and peered over her shoulder at the mirror.

“That makes sense with the crisscross in the dress.” Blue pointed to the straps spanning Eva’s bare back.

Eva’s gaze in the mirror shifted to my new friend. “Exactly. Good eye.”

Blue shrugged, dislodging her overalls strap again. “It’s basic shape recognition.”

I snickered. “Blue, this is my friend and roommate, Eva. Eva, this is Blue. She works here. Sort of.”

Recognition lit Eva’s eyes, and she turned to smile at Blue. “You’re Hope’s daughter, right?”

“Yes. Hope is my mom.”

Eva sighed. “I just love her. Best yoga classes I’ve ever taken, and her choice of dresses borders on psychic.”

Blue’s face softened. “She’ll be happy to hear that. Yoga is her passion. She’s been a little depressed since she split with Archer Bolme, but hearing about people enjoying her classes will cheer her up.”

My mouth dropped open. Archer Bolme was the super-hot coach for the Dallas NHL team. I didn’t follow hockey, but even I knew who he was. Voted most eligible bachelor by Modern Dallas magazine three years in a row. “She was dating Archer Bolme? How? I need to know every detail.”

“Why?” Blue’s nose scrunched, and Eva burst out laughing.

Eva linked her arms through Blue’s. “Okay, it’s settled. I’m buying this dress. Chloe is buying that one. And you’re coming to lunch with us.”

I held up my prize. “Hey, I haven’t even tried it on yet.”

Blue frowned down at the watch on her wrist. “I suppose I can take an early lunch, but I have to be back here by two.”

“Deal.” I scrambled behind the curtain next to Eva’s, intent on being done before Blue could change her mind.

The blue dress fit me like a dream, hugging my curves and making my boobs look fantastic without threatening a wardrobe malfunction. Maybe Hope was psychic after all. I hurried back into my clothes, and my mind wandered to my unwilling date.
