“I’m sorry for all the video bullshit, but I’m not going to apologize for what happened in the coffee shop.”

Air rushed out of my lungs. “It takes a lot more than internet trolls to bother me.”

“What about D?”

I scoffed. “I can handle my brother. He’s not in charge of my life, and he rarely factors into my choices.”

Noah ran his fingers over the stubble on his chin, and the rasping noise derailed my thoughts as I imagined the rough feel between my thighs. “He factors into mine.”

I blinked at him, and realization hit me like a brick to the face. “Is that why you turned me down?”

Noah rubbed the back of his neck, glancing across the room at Mac. “It’s one of the reasons.”

I frowned at him. “Well now I need a full explanation.”

“Let me get the pizza started and I’ll explain anything you want.”

My pulse sped at the opening he’d left me. “Anything?”

Noah paused halfway out of his chair and leaned forward into my space, close enough I could feel his breath on my lips. “Anything. This round is free, but the next will cost you. Be sure you can handle the answers before you ask.”

He walked to the bar without a backward glance, and I laid a hand on my chest, trying to calm my crazy heartbeat. Was I about to make a mistake?

Past experience said yes. I could keep pretending Noah wasn’t interested and shore up my flagging confidence with false assurances that I’d never give him a second chance. Except I hated lying to myself.

If Noah had changed his mind about me, I had no good reason to keep myself aloof—not that I’d succeeded at aloof thus far. If he offered me a hookup, I might spontaneously combust at the table. I desperately wanted to prove he wasn’t special, but he was. Despite what I said to Eva earlier, I was picky about my sex partners.

By the time he returned, I knew which question I wanted to start with. “Did my brother warn you away from me?”

Noah tilted his head in a half-nod. “Not specifically. He made it very clear you’re important to him, and none of us were allowed to fuck with you.”

I narrowed my eyes. “Don’t I get a say in that?”

He raised a brow. “You want to be treated like a ball bunny?”

“No. I want to be able to make my own decisions.”

“Fair enough. Any other questions?”

His easy agreement calmed some of my ire, and I laughed. “Yeah, you’re not getting off that easy.”

“I’m not getting off at all,” he muttered under his breath.

“That was your choice, if I remember correctly.”

His gaze shot back to me, and the air between us heated. I raised my chin, challenging him to deny it. Clearly, we had the attraction part down.

Noah braced his forearms on the table, eyes locked on me. “Even if you weren’t D’s sister, I would have said no.”

“Why?” I whispered.

“You and I aren’t looking for the same thing.”

My brows shot up. “Multiple orgasms aren’t good enough for you?”

His lips twitched. “Okay, we’re looking forsomeof the same things, but I’m not interested in a singular experience.”

“Why not?”
