“You already knew that, just like you already knew Harper needed a new assistant.”

She shrugged and carefully set Henry on the floor. “I know a lot of things. Makes life easier to predict.”

I pursed my lips, debating if I wanted to try to out-Eva her to find out where she got her information. Not worth the trouble. I wouldn’t be able to do anything with the knowledge, and Eva used her powers for good. Mostly.

The alarm on my phone buzzed, and I double checked the time. “How have we been in here for an hour already?”

She frowned. “Why do you have an alarm set?”

“Because I wanted to put some actual effort into my appearance tonight. I’d planned to beg you to help me get ready after the coffee. I haven’t been on a real date since high school.”

Eva held up a finger. “I’m going to need more details than that, but I’ll let the comment pass for now since we’ve shifted into date preparation mode. Where are you going?”

“Noah won’t tell me. When I asked, he said jeans were fine, but that man lives in sweats and workout gear. Not that I’m complaining about those gray sweats.” I shared a look with Eva, and we both fanned ourselves.

“Knowing our silent giant, you’re going to want sneakers and something you can move in.”

I scrunched my nose. “He’s not going to make me exercise, is he?”

Henry quacked in shared horror—or maybe because Eva was shooing me into the living room. She closed the door in his face, and I snickered. That’s what he got for ruining my favorite green sweater.

Eva propped her hands on her hips. “Are you being mean to my duck?”

“Yourduck?”

She waved her hand at the closed door. “Theduck. Whatever. I’m officially kicking you out until Henry goes back to the rescue. I need your room to escape his unbridled love. Also your shower. Let’s get you some new clothes for naughty time at Noah’s.”

“Please don’t call it that,” I muttered as I followed her into my room.

“Since I didn’t hear you tell D about your extracurricular activities, I’m assuming you’ll be back next weekend.”

I snorted. “Unless Henry sticks around.”

“We can share your shower until you grow a pair of lady balls and tell your brother you’re getting naked with his friend.”

“Keep it up and I won’t tell you what Noah calls his penis.”

She threw a balled-up sock at me, followed by a tote bag. “That’s a false promise. He doesn’t have a name for his junk.”

I shoved the socks and a change of clothes into the tote bag. “How did you—” I sighed. “Mac.”

“Mac,” she confirmed.

“He’s going to spill everything to D this weekend, isn’t he?”

“Yep,” Eva answered cheerfully. “Better figure out what you want to say before Mac paraphrases for you.”

Fantastic. Now I really did have a deadline. My stomach cramped up at the thought, but I refused to let my own insecurities get in the way of spending time with Noah tonight. As long as he didn’t make me go hiking or something. I couldn’t be expected to accept a relationshipandcardio.

“Johnny’s tonight!” Mac whipped past me, slapping my stomach on the way.

I grunted and tried not to drop the weight bar on my face. “Can’t.”

Mac circled our section of the weight room in my peripheral vision while I finished my set. When he got back to me, I’d already re-racked.

He punched my shoulder. “Yes, you can, big poppa. I believe in you.”
