The roughneck next to Wynonna shakes his head. “You best just give in, Eagle. It’s easier that way.”

“Ralph, you do you,” Eagle replies with a little snarl. “Leave me to do me.”

“I’m just going to stand here,” Wynonna tells Eagle before unleashing her dark-eyed gaze on me.

“Fine,” Eagle sighs. “But I’m only agreeing, so you’ll go away.”

Wynonna inhales sharply. “I approve of your submission to my dominance.”

Eagle rolls his eyes and begins to introduce me.

Wynonna instantly throws up her hand and announces, “Too late.” Turning her back on us, she adds, “My time is valuable.”

Eagle grunts his disapproval as she walks away with Ralph following after her.

“Is that her husband?” I ask despite spotting their wedding rings.

“Yeah, Ralph is a dumbass,” Eagle says and smiles at me. “People know I care about you. It’s making some of them weird and pushy.”

“I don’t mind as long as I get to be with you,” I reply, letting such sappy words tumble freely from my mouth.

Eagle rewards me with a lingering kiss. He doesn’t even stop when the waitress arrives. After she stands for a while, I force us apart.

“Would you like dessert?” the waitress asks Eagle.

I get the sense she’s known him carnally. Her chilliness toward me makes sense. After all, Eagle is a catch, and I’m the lucky woman who won his affection. If I were her, I’d be jealous, too.

“I’m nauseous,” I tell Eagle when he asks if I want anything. “I probably shouldn’t have filled up on popcorn before dinner.”

Eagle waits until the waitress leaves the bill. His gaze studies me.

“Do you need to go home?”

“No, why?”

“You’re sick.”

“No, I’m just queasy,” I say and stroke his cheek. “So, maybe we shouldn’t fool around in the SUV. I don’t know if cum would be an appealing food chaser.”

Chuckling, Eagle glances around as if someone might hear us talking about me sucking him off.

“But,” I whisper and slide my hand across his thigh, “after my stomach settles, I’d love to taste your cum on my tongue.”

“Good Lord,” he mumbles and adjusts in the booth. “You’re gonna make me jizz right here.”

Smiling at his needy gaze, I’ve never felt sexy before Eagle. Guys said I was pretty. One drunk guy at a bar called me “beautiful,” but he said something similar about the flashing sign behind the door.

None of those men were like Eagle. They didn’t own the rooms they walked into or gain the lusty attention of sexy women.

Eagle feels like an unattainable dream that’s somehow found its way into the palm of my hand. I just need to avoid ruining what I’ve stumbled upon with him.

On our way outside, we pass the man who ended Marky’s life. Glenn Childs casually sits back with a beer. There’s no tension in the air over his presence. I seriously doubt the mood would be so calm if Marky killed Glenn and showed up here for dinner. McMurdo Valley has clearly picked its side. Once again, I’m reminded I work for the bad guys.

Soon, my gaze takes in the beauty from the restaurant’s hilltop spot. A rough, untamable energy fills the air. McMurdo Valley is a special place, something I hadn’t noticed until recently.

Just like I couldn’t imagine the importance of the motorcycle club ruling McMurdo Valley. Maybe I was never any good at pulling back the curtain and facing unpleasant truths. I tend to take things at face value.

A part of me just stopped maturing after I married Steve. I didn’t feel like my own person anymore, so I went through my days wearing blinders. Sometimes, I could be in a room filled with people and only see Owen. The same happened when I arrived here with Fiona.
