Tuesday whispers something to Roxie. They nod approvingly at my bullshit.Hell yeah, I’ve been paying attention to the manipulative crap the homestead chicks pull. Now, I get to show off what I’ve learned.

“No,” Ma-Journey declares.

“What?”

“You’re not thinking straight.”

“Why?”

“You ran off rather than accepting the consequences. That was very immature. I have ruled you’re too emotionally juvenile to marry anyone, let alone a mentally stunted weirdo.”

I glance at Oana to see if her feelings are hurt. She notices me watching her and shrugs.

“I’ve heard worse.”

Grinning now, I hug my ma to me and sway with her pinned against my chest. “I love you so much. When I was scared, you beat up the boogeyman under my bed. When I was sad, you blew bubbles with me. When I was angry, you worked out with me. When I thought I’d lost my dream girl, you promised everything would be okay. And you were right. Thank you.”

My mother isn’t sure how to break free without hurting me. Giving up on violence, she reaches under my shirt and tickles my stomach. I release her immediately.

“Where will you live?” she demands.

“In Otto’s house.”

Cocking one of her luscious eyebrows, Ma-Journey asks, “Does he know that?”

“He will in a minute,” Val says and texts my older brother.

Ma-Journey looks back at Donovan for help. My pa seems conflicted. After all, his son moped around for nearly a year. Now, I’m happy. On the other hand, my ma is pissed.Hmm, who will he side with?

“I don’t know,” Pa-Donovan admits when she keeps staring at him. “Ike isn’t under duress. She isn’t pregnant. There’s nothing keeping him from walking away. If this is what he wants, why can’t we support that?”

My ma exhales hard, glances at her gossiping sisters, and mutters, “For frick’s sake, dumbasses, will you help me?”

Justice and Poppy act offended before rushing over. My aunts decide I’m a lost cause, so they focus on Oana instead.

“What if we paid to send you somewhere nice to start over?” Justice asks while Poppy gasps and smiles approvingly at the idea. “You can be anyone you want, away from your cult of uptight dorks. Then, in five,” Justice says before changing courses after noticing Ma-Journey’s snarl, “or ten, um, decades, if you still want Ike, you can return. No, wait, that makes no sense. Your dork cult will still be around. I guess he’ll need to move to where you are.”

“You’re not helping,” Ma-Journey grumbles at her sister.

“Look at her eyes,” Auntie Justice insists. “She’s curious about starting over somewhere far from her cult’s prying eyes.”

Everyone looks at Oana to see what she thinks. Her blue eyes reveal nothing. I sense my ma is getting her hopes up. Meanwhile, Tuesday looks worried over my wacky love situation not working out.

However, I only smile, knowing Oana and I are forever.
