My wild child cred is about to be severely tested.

IKE, AKA WINNING THE LOVE LOTTERY

My ghost is real, andI refuse to lose her again.

While fleeing the Cracker Barrel, my confidence was flying high. Now, I’m aimlessly riding around with no clear destination.

Should I take Oana out of this county? Or leave West Virginia? Where could we head that our families won’t find us?

Hell, can I really run away from home? I’m a grown man with a job and responsibilities. Oana is a stranger who has never ridden a motorcycle before. No way can she handle the hog between her legs for hours as we race toward parts unknown.

Besides, what if she changes her mind after we’re states from home?

Leaving West Virginia makes no sense when the county clerk’s office will be open tomorrow. Once we make shit official, people will go ahead and settle their britches.

What we need today is enough privacy to get to know each other without moonshine or meddling families.

My growling stomach reminds me how we were both about to eat dinner when our lives turned upside down. I loop away from the backroads I know well and drive to Rockwell. Tumbling Rock’s sister city has hotels, restaurants, and the county clerk.

I pull into the Pork Emporium Diner’s parking lot. Oana doesn’t get off my motorcycle immediately. Though she doesn’t ask for help, I sense she isn’t sure what to do. Climbing off, I guide her to do the same.

As we stand next to my hog, I take in the sight of my dream girl.

Most of Oana’s extremely long, blonde hair remains tied back in a tight ponytail. Some strands came loose in the wind and now float around her beautiful face.

Her cheeks are flushed. Her catlike, blue eyes remain wary. Her flawless skin shines with sweat from the ride. Despite her goofy long denim skirt and baggy off-yellow shirt, I’ve never seen anyone more beautiful.

My silence wins a dark frown from Oana. Tilting her head, she asks, “Are you going to kiss me?”

“I don’t think I should.”

Frowning harder now, she circles me. “Whatcha acting shy for? You were plenty confident in the woods that night.”

“Moonshine wipes away all filters.”

Oana studies me as the heat of the ride leaves her face. “So that wasn’t really you in the woods?”
