Noticing how his voice echoes, I mumble, “My brain isn’t working right.”

“Well, looky there, you’re using real words this morning.”

“Huh?”

“You were talking gibberish before you passed out.”

“What’s gibberish mean?”

“Like you were saying words out of order and adding random animal noises. No one could understand you.”

“You did.”

“No,” he says, chuckling. “I just guessed what my dream girl would say in each situation and blurted that out.”

“You already know me.”

Ike tenderly strokes my back. “I knew the only regret you had with leaving your family was not being able to bring Anouk. Now, she’s safe, too.”

“That was real?” I ask and look around. “Where is she?”

“Asleep in my old room. My parents offered to let her live here until she has a plan.”

“They have the biggest hearts.”

My sleepy-eyed love wears a grin when I praise Donovan and Journey. I’m glad Ike appreciates his parents. He got really lucky with his family.

“Did I act weird when I was drunk?” I whisper.

Ike chuckles again. “You were really funny. Horny, too.”

“Do you get weird when you’re drunk?”

“You tell me. I was drunk when we met.”

Recalling that night, I sigh. “You were charming.”

“Yeah, that was the booze.”

“No, you’re charming sober, too.”

My words win me a kiss. We’re still making out when his mother shuffles out of her bedroom. I get my hand away from Ike’s dick and tell her good morning.

“Before everyone is up for breakfast,” she whispers, “why don’t you head over to Otto’s place and clean up? A shower might help with your hangovers.”

I don’t think I have one of those hangover things until I stand up and the world slaps me backward. Ike needs to help me out of the house and across the grassy patch of land to his brother’s house. I also need assistance in the shower. That’s when Ike repays me for getting him off the night before.

We spend a long time in the shower, goofing off with the soaps and being all around horny. We finally run out of hot water, so our lust moves to the bedroom. I can’t get enough of Ike’s hot skin wrapped around mine.

Eventually, we get dressed and return to Ike’s parents’ house.

“We already ate,” Edith says from her spot on the couch with Anouk. “We saved some for you in the fridge.”

Anouk stares at me as if I’m terrifying. I figure she’s just reacting to my hair and makeup.

“You’re barely dressed,” she explains later when we’re sitting alone on the front porch.

“It’s hot out. I’ll wear more clothes when autumn shows up.”
