She scoffs. “I’d happily do time for them.”

“And then Ollie would be without his mum. I’m serious, Rosey. Don’t go off and deal with this on your own. You have everyone at the club as well as me and Art behind you. You don’t have to do this shit alone.”

We move on to dessert, a delicate chocolate fondu, and as we finish, she throws her napkin down. “Maybe you could come tomorrow? Maybe just wait outside?” I’m happy she’s asked, so I nod. “It’s at nine in the morning. You’ll need to be up early.”

“You can wake me,” I tell her, standing and holding out my hand for her to take. She frowns. “I thought I’d stay with you tonight, if that’s okay.” She lowers her head to hide the smile, and I lead her inside.

We shower separately, and by the time I join her in her bedroom, she’s sitting in bed watching television. She tugs the sheet back for me to climb in, and once I do, she snuggles against me. It’s a first and I can’t stop the smile spreading across my face as I place my arm around her. This feels good, like it’s where I was always meant to be.

I tip her head back by placing my finger under her chin so we’re eye to eye. “No more running, Rosey,” I say firmly.

Her eyes flick away briefly, and when they return to mine, I see a subtle change there. She smiles. “No more running.”

I place my lips against hers, feeling a rush of relief spread through my body. Hearing her say the words is like a weight has been lifted. Maybe, finally, we’ll stop this merry dance of denial and we can move forward. Her hand cups my cheek and she deepens the kiss. After a few moments, I begin to pull back, not wanting her to think I’m after anything from her right now except love and comfort, but she throws the sheets back and climbs onto my lap, kissing me again. “I’ve missed you,” she whispers against my mouth. It’s words I never thought I’d hear from her guarded self.

“I missed you too, so fucking much.”

“Show me,” she adds, gently rocking against my now solid erection. I close my eyes, allowing myself to enjoy the feel of her body against mine.

“Shouldn’t we take things slow?” I query.

She shakes her head, biting on her lower lip and lifting her shirt over her head to reveal her naked breasts. “Slow is for new couples, and we’re way past that.” I grin as she pushes up onto her knees so she can reach inside my boxers. “We’re practically married,” she adds, fisting my cock.

I still her hand. “If we’re doing this, we’re doing it my way for a change,” I tell her, gripping her by the waist and rolling so she’s beneath me. “We’re not fucking.” I kiss her until her breath catches, and then I begin to run my mouth down her body, nipping and licking as I go. I settle between her legs, “I’m taking my time,” I add, swiping my tongue through her folds, and her back arches off the bed. “I want to taste every inch of you.” I seal my mouth over her, sucking until she cries out in pleasure. “I want to hear you call my name,” I murmur, “every time I make you come.” She grips a handful of the sheet, groaning as I continue torturing her slowly. When she finally comes, it’s with my name on her lips.

ROSEY

I know what he’s doing as he slides up my body, occasionally stopping to kiss my damp skin. He’s making love. It’s different from our other times, and I’m not freaking out like I thought I would. I want him to take his time. I want to relax in his arms while he takes care of me.

He lines his erection up at my entrance, and as he slides into me, he places gentle kisses over my face. He withdraws just as slowly, this time looking into my eyes with a deep intensity that sends shivers down my spine. His lips find mine and the kiss is soft and breathy, breaking each time he fills me. He rests his forehead against my own, our heavy breathing mingling together in gasps of pleasure, and when I come for a second time, he follows me over the edge, groaning somewhere deep in the back of his throat.

He drops down beside me, wrapping me in his arms and pulling me against his body.

I wake with a nervous feeling inside. Albert is still wrapped around me, and I carefully unwrap his arms and slip out of bed, heading for the shower. I’m seeing Ollie in just over an hour and I want to be there early to show commitment.

Albert is still in a deep sleep when I’m dressed, so I head downstairs for breakfast, where the dining room is its usual chaotic self. I sit down beside Hadley and reach for some toast. “Big day today,” she says, pouring me a coffee.

“Why do I feel so nervous?” I ask.

She smiles, placing her hand over mine. “It’s all going to be fine. Ollie will be home with us in no time at all.”

“You think?” I ask, glancing at her.

She nods. “We’ll build a big case against your mum, discrediting her. If they really want to go down that road, we’ll be ready for them. See how today goes, but I think we should at least have Maverick go for temporary custody.”

I scoff. “I’ve been thinking about that. I don’t think they’ll ever give Ollie to Maverick. The judge will see he’s a biker and throw it right out.”

Hadley smiles knowingly. “A man who helps the community, gives back to society, and rescues domestic abuse survivors. We’ll have the judge begging him to take Ollie.”

Maverick stands. “You ready to go?” he asks.

I nod, following his lead and heading out for the car. Albert is leaning against it, looking at his mobile. My heart fills with hope, and when he looks up and smiles, I return it. “I hope you didn’t think you could sneak off without me.”

“You looked so peaceful in bed, I didn’t want to wake you.”

He kisses me on the cheek. “That’s because I finally got a good night’s sleep with you by my side, where you belong.”

We drive in silence to the school, and as we pull up in the car park, Albert turns to face me. “Do you want us to come in with you?” I appreciate him giving me the choice and I nod. I don’t think I can face this alone.
