“They will never trust you, much less work with you.” She punches him square in the nose, causing his head to jolt back. When it comes forward, his nose is bleeding like a waterfall.

“You’re a fucking bitch,” Slade yells, pulling on the restraints around his arms, trying to get to her.

“Actually, I’m an assassin. One who works for the most notorious league in the world.” She stands, grabs a gun off the table just out of his reach, emptying the clip in his chest. “And now I know exactly what I need to do.”

The three of us are still at her confession.

She’s a Shade.

Out of every possibility for her identity, I don’t think any of us would have guessed this one. Was she the one trying to hack into my system? Is that why she came to me after?

Is she the reason the Shades are after us?

A knock sounds through the suite. I pull up the feed to see who it is. A figure in all black drops a box in front of our door. Evie’s just now leaving the shed, so who the fuck is here?

Alexi storms off, and we follow close behind. He opens the door with his gun in hand, but no one’s in sight. He grabs the box, brings it inside, and places it on the coffee table.

Just as he’s about to open it, Damien grabs his hand. “What if it’s a bomb?” he yells.

“It’s too light to be a bomb,” Alexi says, pulling his hand out of Damien's grasp. He tears open the package, dumping its contents on the coffee table.

Notes scatter everywhere. Another blade and a spare phone clunks on the table.

We all grab a note, scanning through the information. Having studied with Evie quite a bit, I know it’s her handwriting. I grab one note after another, my heart shattering with each word.

Dropoff destination…

Shipment times…

Movements…

It was all her. Everything. Our men died because of her. Our organization is struggling because of her. Our lives are in danger because of her.

As I look at my brothers, I watch their hearts fracture along with mine.

It was all just a game, and we fell for it. Fell for her. Hook, line, and sinker.

Chapter 56

I clean myself up in my old room after my talk with Slade. Laney is relieved to see me, although not happy I’m covered in blood. I figured some things out during my little talk with that vile man. I’m not done here. I plan to tell the guys the truth because I believe they will help me. They may be monsters, but they’remymonsters.

I unlock the door to the guys’ suite and take a breath.

I can do this.

Everything is quiet, and only the small kitchen night light illuminates the room. I assume they are all in bed after a long day. I personally have no idea how I’m still standing, but I’m not done. I need to talk to them. Without me saying a word, each of their doors open one by one, and the look they give me is unsettling.

“Can we talk?” I ask them, trying to figure out what changed in the past few hours since I left them.

“Now you’re ready to tell us the truth?” Lev asks in a hateful tone.

“After everything you did,” Damien says, stepping out to flick on the main lights.

The coffee table is covered with all the things I’ve kept hidden. I didn’t even think to check my hiding spots when I returned since I was planning to leave anyway.

How the fuck did they find this?

“You went through my stuff?” I ask in shock as I look over everything. It’s all laid out right here. My hands skim over the notes, each one carefully written in my handwriting. My extra blade, my spare phone, everything.
