I caught it quickly and wiped my hands. Just to have something to do other than ogling him, I looked around the house.

It had high ceilings with wooden beams running across them. The walls were covered in a warm beige color and beneath my feet was lovely hardwood flooring.

I’d always thought it was one of the most beautiful old homes in town when I drove past. But now, being inside was even more fascinating.

“Your home is beautiful,” I blurted out.

“It is.”

I turned to Liam but he wasn’t looking at the space around us. His eyes were zeroed in on me, dark and intense. I lost my train of thought.

I shook my head to regain focus; Liam was speaking to me.

“Ever been inside before now?”

“No.”

“And you thought it was beautiful?” He sauntered over.

“Well, from the outside.”

He laughed and I rolled my eyes.

God, he loved to tease. He and Linea would get along well.

I paused. Why was I thinking that?

“Come on. I’ll give you a tour.”

“Oh, um, great.”

I really should have been going home. I’d come here wanting to get to know Liam better. And I had, while having a nice, casual dinner with him.

I could make my assessment of his character later, when I was in the quiet of my own home. Where I should be headed right now.

Instead, my feet followed him. The need to be near him won out over anything else. Linea would groan in frustration if she saw me now.

Thank goodness I was here alone with Liam.

Liam led me down a short walkway, opening doors to different rooms. Everything was clean and in its proper place, but it was sterile, like the rooms were hardly used.

“You were an only child,” I stated more than asked.

He paused on his way out of what used to be the drawing room. “Yes.”

“How did you and your parents deal with so many empty rooms?”

His eyes took on a faraway look that indicated fond memories. “When I was younger, it was great for hide and seek. On weekends, my parents would host parties for friends. But as I grew older, I ended up spending most of my time at your dad’s.”

“That’s lovely.”

His eyes held mine and his mouth twitched. “Yes, it was.”

When we finished looking at the rooms downstairs, we headed up to the second floor.

“There are five bedrooms with three baths.”

“Wow.” My eyes widened. “That’s big.”
