Was that true? “Maybe.”

“Listen. Let me tell you something that’s going to be hard to hear. Stick with me, okay?”

I could never have imagined the horror that Bree experienced in the time we’d been apart. Kidnapped. Raped. My hand flew over my mouth, and I shook my head, tears spilling over as I listened, crying with her as she revealed what she had endured.

“So you see why I’m no longer living life by the rules. I want to be happy, Callie. And Raven makes me happy.”

I reached for her hand, holding it in mine. “I’m so sorry that happened to you.”

“It’s hard. Sometimes I fight depression and nightmares, but I’m not alone. Raven would die for me. He almost did. I’ve never known a love like the one we feel for each other.”

I swiped the tears from my cheeks. “I want to experience that too.”

“Do you think Hawk is worth the risk?”

“You know, I do,” I replied firmly. “I hate that he’s slept with so many women, but that’s not the man I see when I look into his eyes. I see a good man, outlaw or not.”

She smiled, rising to her feet. “Then let’s get you ready.”

“For what?”

“Operation Seduce Hawk.”

I giggled. Couldn’t help it. The idea kind of excited me. “Alright. Give me a makeover and help me choose an outfit.”

Her green eyes lit up like emeralds. “Yes!”

I let her drag me from the room, scooping up my margarita before we rushed into the hall, laughing at her enthusiasm.

“WHAT DOES THIS GIRLmean to you, Hawk? Tell me why the fuck I would risk the lives of the men in this club.”

From the minute I walked inside Crow’s office, I couldn’t sit still. I kept pacing, smoking my fourth cigarette during our discussion. My finger shook a little from the nicotine, but it didn’t matter. Only Callie and Sadie did.

Well, fuck, the club did too. I wasn’t choosing between the girls or the guys that had become family.

“Do you remember Sadie Withers?”

Crow sat back, pulling a smoke from the pack in his hand. He paused, tilting his head to the side. “The woman you went to prison for five years ago.”

“The same one.”

“What the fuck does that have to do with this?”

“Callie’s last name is Withers.”

Crow narrowed his eyes. “You sure?”

“Yeah. She’s her sister. Bree and Callie worked together in the mayor’s office. You know the shit they’ve been putting together about his corruption and criminal activity.”

“Fuck,” Crow cursed. “I didn’t put it together until now.”

“I didn’t either at first. Not until Callie told me her sister’s name. Then it all clicked.” I already told Crow about being chased and laying low at the Powder Keg. Falcon filled him in about the gunshot wound to my side and how Marcus stepped up, providing a place for me to crash. We owed him. “I didn’t intend to get involved again, but this shit is fucking happening. I have to help Sadie and Callie.”

“You’re not telling me everything. I can sense your Crow.”

“You’re never going to believe me.”

“Stop fucking around and say it, Hawk.”
