Chapter 14

“You look beautiful, Callie. As gorgeous as your sister,” Elliot announced, leaning against the bar as I approached him.

“Oh, good. We aren’t pretending anymore.”

He smiled. “Yes. It did get rather tedious, didn’t it?”

“Is that a rhetorical question?”

“Only if you want it to be.” His gaze raked over me, missing nothing. “I must confess I wish we met under different circumstances.”

“What kind?” I asked before ordering a glass of red wine.

The bartender handed it over, and I took a sip, always keeping Elliot within view. I didn’t trust him.

“The kind where a certain DOLL Agency allowed me to book your services. I’m rather fond of blondes. They do have all the fun.”

Disgusting pig. I wouldn’t let him rile me up.

“Is that your game? To fuck your way into prison? Seems rather droll.”

His hand tightened around the glass of bourbon he drank, but he never lost his cocky, aggressive smile. “You have a way with words, Callie.”

“Why not tell me the truth? What do you hope to gain by speaking in innuendo? It’s ignorant and tiresome.”

The first hint that I ruffled his feathers surfaced. A sneer replaced his smile. “Maybe this is only a diversionary tactic.”

Right. Like I was stupid and didn’t figure it out.

I batted my eyelashes. “Oh, how silly of me. I never suspected a thing.”

Yeah, I had the market on sarcastic bitch cornered.

Elliot moved closer, taking the seat next to me at the bar. We kept our voices low, but it didn’t lessen the sting or animosity between us.

“Would you like to know how often I fucked your sister? Sadie never said no to me. No matter what I wanted.” His hand lifted and caressed my bare shoulder. “If you want to see her again, maybe we could have a similar arrangement. I’d love to watch your face as you come. Such a passionate woman would be remarkable in bed, especially when I have her tied up and at my mercy.”

How the hell did this man become the mayor of Henderson? How did he rise to the height of popularity? Did money by every step on the ladder of his success?

“You’re despicable?”

“But I fuck even better.”

“So that’s it. You just want a new doll to play with.”

He shrugged. “I can have any woman I want except for you. That’s incredibly attractive, Callie.”

“And it will never happen.”

“Never say never, my dear. Everyone has a price. You just have to find it.”

“That’s what’s wrong with you. No one has ever said no and meant it.”

“Irrelevant.”

Flustered, I downed the rest of my wine. “I would never consent.”

“Ah, but I don’t need that. Once a bargain is made, I fulfill it.”
