Chapter1

Chrissie

‘Twenty-two and leaving the big city,’ Chrissie sighed, tired but also optimistic for the future. ‘Better to move now rather than waste any more time!’

Chrissie had always dreamed of living in the big city. Having grown up in the suburbs of a medium sized city, the idea of living in the metropolitan epicenter of the world had always appealed to her.

But the practicalities of living in the big city were something else altogether.

The cost, the relentless pace of life, and the sheer size and scale of everything just wasn’t the right fit.

But Chrissie had made peace with that - and it was now time to try something else. If the city wasn’t the right kind of vibe, then maybe small-town living would work…

‘Stallion Valley here I come,’ Chrissie said, picking up her cell phone to check the time. ‘Actually, I think I need to move my little butt if I want to make sure I arrive before all my stuff does!’

With that, Chrissie opened her blue eyes as wide as she could. Like a cartoon Disney princess, she wanted to take in every corner of her cute city apartment for one final time.

‘I’ll miss this place,’ Chrissie said, a smile on her face even though she felt a little bit sad too. ‘But I’m looking forward to what’s coming next for me.’

Chrissie tied her blonde hair in a high ponytail and picked up her suitcase.

The removal company had picked up the boxes of her stuff yesterday, so the plan was to travel lightly in her car.

The journey to Stallion Valley was going to take a while, but Chrissie had all of her favorite podcasts downloaded and ready to play as she made the road trip out of the city and toward the far quieter roads that would take her to her new home.

Things are going to be very different.

But that’s the whole point.

I need a fresh start, and Stallion Valley can give me that…

Chrissie picked up her front door key and walked out of the apartment, shutting the door for one final time.

‘It’s been fun,’ Chrissie said, a sense of hope in her voice. ‘But now it’s time for me to start again. And who knows, I might even meet a very special kind of man in Stallion Valley…’

Chrissie giggled to herself and walked down the corridor toward the elevator.

Chrissie was all set to go.

With a small suitcase, her stuffie Jingles, and a small picnic basket of snacks for the journey, Chrissie had everything she needed.

Not everything had been bad about living in the city, but too many things hadn’t been quite right. As the elevator pinged open on the ground floor, Chrissie felt a sense of joy knowing that she was about to embark on a new adventure in her life.

‘Bye-bye, big city,’ Chrissie sang as she stepped out of her building’s entrance lobby and onto the bustling sidewalk. ‘I’ll see ya around!’

Chapter2

Jack

‘Forty-five and still in great shape,’ Jack said, wiping the sweat from his brow. ‘Even if my right shoulder does feel like a creaky old door!’

Jack laughed and put the two large dumbbells down on the floor of his personal gym.

‘Hydration is the key,’ Jack said, reaching over and glugging down the remainder of his gallon bottle of water. ‘If only this could be beer…’

As ever, Jack was up at the crack of dawn to complete his daily workout. Having put the effort in for the previous fifty-eight minutes, Jack was happy enough to call it quits.

Being arguably the busiest man in Stallion Valley meant that Jack had no other option but to wake up early to get his regular fix of strength and conditioning training in.
