“Morning.”

“Sleep well?”

“I did, you wore me out.”

Hudson laughed before asking, “what are your plans for today?”

“Harper and Ellie had planned to take me over to Manly Beach on the ferry and show me around. I’ve been dying to go on one of those ferries. They told me the ferry gives great views of the harbour, which I already know after being on your boat yesterday. Then, we were going to get fish and chips and eat them down on the beach.”

“Is that something you would still like to do, or would you prefer to go somewhere else?”

There was so much I wanted to see and do in the city and surrounds that it was hard to decide what to do first. But what did I want to share with Hudson? I wanted my time with him to create special memories.

“Elizabeth?”

“Sorry, I was thinking about what I’d like to do since we were at the beach yesterday.”

“Okay, so no beach—check. Are you interested in history, old buildings, shopping?”

“Shopping sometimes, but I’m not one for buying for the sake of it unless it’s books.”

“You like to read?”

“Love it and there wasn’t a lot to do that was relaxing after a hard day’s work.”

Hudson placed a hand on his chest. “What, no wild parties?”

I laughed. “With whom? Did you not get the part about me living a zillion kilometres from the nearest city? Now and again I joined the crew for a drink and to listen to music, but time was usually called early because we all had to start work at sunrise the next day.”

“You certainly had a different life.”

I rolled over and kissed Hudson before lying my head next to his on the pillow. He had the most magnificent eyes. I would never get tired of gazing into their depths. When I rested a hand on Hudson’s chest, he set his on top.

“Hudson?”

“Yes, Sweetheart?”

“Where do you see this going?”

Hudson hesitated for a moment. “Honest?”

“Yes, please.”

Hudson took a deep breath. “I have no idea because I’ve never spent more than a few hours with a woman. There has never been the same one twice, and I have certainly never wanted to bring anyone to any of my homes. Where I live is my sanctuary, and I determined a long time ago that I would never bring anyone to my home whom I didn’t care about.

“I can’t believe you chose me to be your first. Why?”

Hudson rolled over so he could look into my eyes. “Elizabeth, it’s only been a week, but in my heart, I know you’re someone special. I don’t want to rush things, but I think we might have a future.”

“I agree, it hasn’t been long, but I would also like to keep sharing time with you.

“Well now we have that settled, and seem to be on the same page, have you decided what you would like to do today?”

“Can I think about it while I shower?”

Hudson wriggled his eyebrows, causing me to burst into laughter.

“Yes, I would like you to join me in the shower.”
