“Ah-haIknew it!IknewI’dfind you like this—you sinful little whore!”

ItwasGoodieTight-azz, her eyes narrowed with rage and disapproval.

“Oh!”Andigasped and sat up, trying to cover herself.

ThistimeCadedidn’t push her back down.ThebigHybridseemed to realize something was wrong because he allowedAndito get up and reach for her clothes while he growled warningly at the landlady.

“Out!”GoodieTight-azz was raving. “Iwant the two of yououtof my houseright now!”

“But…but it’s almost nighttime!”Andigasped, looking out of the window, where the dusk was falling rapidly.

Werethe days onZo’rathThreeshorter than she was used to or had she simply lost track of time whileCadewent down on her?Shedidn’t know but shedidknow she didn’t want to be out on the streets in the freezing night with roaming packs of wildManimalsaround!

Butit was clear their landlady wasn’t backing down.

“Isaid,OUT!”she shrieked in a voice that would have doneMotherStrict-ezz proud.Froma pocket of her shapeless brown dress, she pulled out a kind of weapon.

Andididn’t know what it was, but it had an ugly snub-nosed muzzle and there was a greenish glow inside the barrel.Wasit some kind of plasma rifle?Shecertainly didn’t want to find out!

“Allright!” she said, raising her hands above her head, though she was only half dressed.Shewas wearingCade’suniform shirt and it was only partially buttoned, but now didn’t seem to be the time to linger over her wardrobe.

Cadeseemed to sense that they were being threatened because he suddenly stepped in front of her, a rumbling growl rising in his thick throat.

“Youget thatManimalto stand down orIswearI’llshoot him!”GoodieTight-azz shouted.

Andi’sheart jumped into her throat.Shecouldn’t let anything happen toCade!

“No, please!”Shepushed her way in front of him. “Please—we’re leaving now.Juststop waving that…thatthingat us and he won’t threaten you. He’sjust trying to protect me—that’s all!”

GoodieTight-azz lowered the plasma rifle—if that was what it was—a fraction of an inch.

“Fine—I’mgoing to back out and you follow.Goto the front door and get out quick andImightnot shoot you—though you certainly deserve it with your whoring ways!”

Andiknew there was no sense in trying to defend herself or explain thatCadehad been determined to have her and there was nothing she could do to stop him.

“Allright,” she said and began gathering her other possessions, but when she picked up her money pouch,GoodieTight-azz waved her weapon again.

“Idon’t think so,Missy—you can leave that right where it is.Whateveryou’ve got in there should be enough to pay for me for my trouble.”

“I’vealready paid you enough for a week’s stayandten times as much as a new door for the bathroom costs!”Andisaid angrily. “Youcan’t takeallmy money!”

“Seemslike that’s whatI’mdoing, though.Youjust leave everything right there—allof it.”GoodieTight-azz leveled her weapon atCade’sbroad, bare chest again. “Orwould you ratherIshoot yourManimal?Ican take out his heart at this range—burn a hole right through him.”

“No, no!”Andigasped, dropping the money purse and everything else back on the bed. “Please, don’t do that—you can have it!Butcan’t you just let me take out two silver pieces to get a ticket on theMoonshuttle?” she begged.

GoodieTight-azz waved her weapon again.

“Leaveit—allof it,” she snapped. “Andget out of my house quick beforeIshoot you both and bury you in my backyard. You’reforeigners, you know—ain’t nobody would miss you!”

Andifelt sick—after meeting so many of the women who ran this town and realizing that most of them were in theNewOrdercult, she had no doubt thatGoodieTight-azz was right.Nobodywould ask where the two off-worlders that nobody cared about had gone to.Theironly chance was to get out of here quickly—before their former landlady shot them.

“Fine,” she said evenly. “We’regoing—just let us leave.”

“That’swhatI’vebeen telling you to do—get out!”

GoodieTight-azz backed slowly away andAndifollowed, making certain to keep herself between the weapon andCade.Shedidn’t want the bigHybridto make a false move and get blown away just because he wasn’t in his right mind and didn’t fully understand the situation.

Theminute they were through the curving hallway,Andiheaded for the living area and the front door.Butbefore they could reach it,Flow-da came out with her long brown robe wrapped around her.
