“Ithoughtit was something like that.She’ssojudgmental!”

“Shewouldn’t let me take anything with me,”Andisaid. “She’sstill gotmyclothes,Cade’sclothes, andall my money.”

“Thatbitch!”Flow-da exclaimed. “Ididn’t realize she robbed you like that!”

“Doyou thinkIcould go to the authorities and make her give any of it back?”Andiasked. “Imean, do you have police or peace keepers or anything like that whereIcould file a report or make a complaint?”

Flow-da sighed.

“Yes, we do have aChiefPeaceKeeperyou could talk to, but unfortunately she’s aNOmember—practically worships the groundMotherStrict-ezz walks on.”

“Isee…”Andinodded grimly. “SoifGoodieTight-azz explains what she saw when she burst in on me andCade, theChiefPeaceKeeperis probably going to side with her.”

“Oh, shedefinitelywould,”Flow-da said. “Ihate to say it, but you’d better just steer clear of her,Andi.Steerclear ofallof them—they’re crazy and they’re only getting crazier by the day.”Sheshivered. “Ijust can’twaitfor theMoonshuttle to get here soIcan leave this stupid town!”

Andifelt the same way, though she was in a considerably more comfortable position than she had been earlier.

“IwishIcould askGoodieBo-long if you could stay with her too,” she said toFlow-da. “Shecertainly doesn’t have any rules about not lettingManimalsmount you.”

“Oh, that would besonice!”Flow-da sighed longingly. “Imean,Iwas able to letHartfordmount me for a little while yesterday butIwas so nervous thatGoodieTight-azz might come back at any time,Icouldn’t really enjoy it.Itdidscratch the itch though, if you know whatImean.”

“Actually,Iwanted to ask you about that,”Andisaid. “Youtold me that some people sayTheScentis some kind of parasite that makes you, uh,wantto be mounted and bred?”

“Thereare lots of theories.Somepeople say it’s a parasite that affects both males and females.Thoughdifferently, of course, since we get to stay in our right minds while the men all becameManimals.Somepeople think it’s a drug that someone is pumping into the air that makes everyone horny all the time.Andof course, theNOsclaim that women have just become degenerate and developed unnatural lusts because they’ve lost the ‘guidance of their men’.”

“Doyou believe any of those ideas?”Andiasked curiously.

“Idon’t know.”Flow-da shrugged. “Who’sto say which theory is right?Womenweren’t allowed to be scientists beforeTheIncident, so it’s not like anyone’s been able to study it much.”

“GoodieBo-long has,”Andiremarked. “Shetold me that she’s got degrees inMicrobiologyandHigherMathematics.”

“Wow!”Flow-da’s eyes went wide in admiration. “She’samazing.Ibet she knows more aboutTheIncidentthan anyone else.”

“Shemight,”Andisaid, frowning.Itoccurred to her thatGoodieBo-long might have more answers than she was sharing.Maybeshe even had a lab somewhere in that huge mansion of hers that might hold the informationAndineeded to restoreCade’smind.

“Well…”Flow-da sighed and looked at the chronometer on her wrist. “TheNOmeeting should be about over by now, soIought to be getting back to the boarding house.Iplan to be sitting in the living area, reading a book and looking perfectly innocent whenGoodieTight-azz walks in the door.Andof course, if she asks whereIwas and whatIwas doing,GoodieOo-lah can vouch for me,” she added. “I’vebeen in theEmporiumthis whole time, browsing innocently andnotletting myManimalmount me or lick me.”Shegiggled.

“Iwish you could come stay with me,”Andisaid again, with a sigh.GoodieBo-long was extremely generous, but also extremely eccentric.Itwas nice not to be judged or glared at all the time, but it was also kind of weird to be with someone who felt comfortable allowing multiple men to lick them, mount them, and fuck them while you were watching.

“You’dbetter not ask,”Flow-da said, shaking her head. “GoodieBo-long has taken a liking to you but from whatI’veheard, that’s rare.Youdon’t want to strain her goodwill by asking if she’ll take another complete stranger into her home.”

“Well….maybe you’re right,”Andiagreed reluctantly.Herhostess was generous to a fault but definitely rather peculiar.Shemight makeGoodieBo-long angry if she asked ifFlow-da could come and stay too.

“Let’sjust say we’ll meet at theEmporiumevery day at this time,”Flow-da suggested. “Doyou think you can get away?”

“Ithink so.”Andishrugged. “SofarGoodieBo-long hasn’t told meIcan’t go anywhere or put any restrictions on my time.”

“Good.”Flow-da gave her another hug. “ThenI’llsee you tomorrow.”

“Seeyou tomorrow,”Andiechoed, hugging her back.Shewatched asFlow-da called forHartfordand the two of them made their way out of theEmporium.Shewas glad her friend was all right, but she wished they were still staying in the same place.ButFlow-da had given her food for thought.Maybeshe could find some clues aboutTheIncidentandTheScentin the huge mansion she was currently staying in…

“Andi?Areyou ready to go?”GoodieBo-long’s voice interrupted her musing. “Docome along, my dear.TheNOmeeting should be breaking up right about now andIdolove to rub their noses in the fact thatIlet myManimalsservice me—the frigid bitches.”

“Oh, er, all right.”Andishrugged uncertainly.

Shedidn’t particularly want to go provoke theNewOrdermembers.Itwas her sense that they controlled most of the town, so making them angry seemed like a bad idea.ButGoodieBo-long seemed to feel that her wealth and status made her immune from any reprisals from the strange cult.

Asthey left theEmporium,GoodieOo-lah was at the front, straightening the shelves.Andihad greeted her on the way in and she nodded good-bye as she prepared to followGoodieBo-long out into the street.ButOo-lah surprised her by suddenly taking her by the arm.
