“But if they were to ask you?” Dan had asked, not liking the trickle of selfish fear his question produced. If they wanted her to tour, what would that mean for them?

“Then I’d have to see where things go,” Sarah had said. “There are others who join for occasional events, so maybe something like that could work out again. But that’s a lot of ifs. The fact they’re wanting me to submit songs is what’s really important.”

“Wow,” Mike said now. “That’s so cool.”

“For real?” Beau asked. “What’s her name?”

“Sarah Maguire.” Dan’s chest might’ve expanded a little as he said her name. How awesome to think someone like her loved someone like him.

“Are you serious?” Tim asked. “Lacey’s listening in, and she says shelovesSarah’s music.”

“Maggie says the same,” Beau added with a nod.

“Dude, is this her?” Chris asked, holding up his phone.

An image of Sarah from years ago, dressed like a rock star, arms high as she led worship in front of thousands, filled Chris’s screen.

“Yeah, that’s her.” He’d seen that video so many times it was burned into his brain.

“Wow,” Ryan said.

Luc whistled. “She got a sister?”

“Yeah, but she’s married.”

“Luc, you look sadder than a kite in a hailstorm,” Beau teased. “Don’t worry, you’ll find someone soon.”

The other guys laughed at Luc’s rolled eyes and crossed arms.

“Or maybe not, if that’s how he tries to charm the ladies,” Tyler said to a round of snickers.

“That’s cool, Dan,” Jai said. “I’m real happy for you.”

“Thanks. She’s pretty awesome,” Dan confessed.

“Sounds like we’ll need to get together sometime and have all these wives meet your girlfriend,” Tim said.

“That’d be good. Maybe sometime in the summer might work.”

The study finally started, discussion about praise seeming particularly pertinent today. Dan had so much to praise God for, so much thanks for His grace toward him.

The meeting concluded, prayer requests were offered and prayers were prayed, then the conversation veered to hockey stuff, as some of the guys had to leave due to family or other commitments.

“Yeah, no surprise, but we’re not tracking to make the playoffs,” Dan admitted.

“Maybe you could come to the Philippines with me,” Mike said. “We’re running another MPFG missions trip, and anyone who wants to come is very welcome.”

Dan’s chest sparked with interest. “Sarah’s parents were missionaries in Papua New Guinea.”

“Wow. I don’t even think I know where that is,” Luc said.

“Maybe you should both come,” Mike suggested.

“When are you talking?” Dan asked.

“May. June. We’re pretty flexible but will need to lock in flights soon and make sure we’ve got all the necessary paperwork filled out.”

“Send me details and I’ll pray about it,” Dan said.
